i'm getting another gas tank from a salvage tomorrow and i was wondering what the best way to clean it before putting it on my car...i believe i broke the resorvior(?) in the tank, the bracket that keeps the gas from moving from the pump when i replaced the pump....i noticed it when i took a sharp turn yesterday it decided to cut out alittle...then i filled up the tank and have had no problems on turns....

The outside of the tank? I would sand it down, prime it, then paint it with the Grey POR15!!!! POR15 is a non-pourus paint, that stops current rust, and prevents new rust. It comes in gloss black, semi gloss black, silver, clear, and grey.

I suggested the grey because it says right on the can....seals leaky gas tanks and fuel lines. Even if your tank doesn't leak...this will serve as "cheap insurance" against it ever starting to leak.....make sure you really coat it good around the seams.
