what's the widest tire I can fit?

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

I got some split 5's from a 98 gt that are on my 93. they have 245/45/17 tires, but I am wondering, what is the widest I can put out back? I really love that meaty look.
on another note. I am saving for some fr500's in the near future. what would it take for 10.5's to fit in the back?

Hate to tell you this, but going any wider than a 255, it going to distort the tire's footprint. You could put a 275 on there if you want, it will fit and bulge out the sides if that is what your looking for.

You could get a 275/40/17 to fit on that rim, but the bulge will be excessive and the tire will roll over onto itself in turns.

Stick with the 245/45 or maybe go for a 255/45

oh no .... i have had my mind set on going witha a 245/45/17 275/40/17 set up for a while now .. they are only 9 inch rims but the two sizes just go together so good ... my parade just got rained on though .. have either of you had bad past experience with this combo? .. i plan on lowering the car also .. so let me know what you guys think ... sorry to barge in on your thread also lol .. i was going to suggest a 275/40 though ...

Well, the split 5-spokes that the original poster has are 17x8 wheels. If you have 17x9's you are good to go with the 275's.

ok im not trying to thread jack but now you have me thinking. if i purchased some 18X10 wheels for the rear would i be able to fit 285/35-18 tires? i have a 88 GT with a 5 lug conversion from a SN95 (complete rear end) thanks

Depends on backspacing etc... My friend has 275s on an 18x9 ROH and it fits, but does stick out a slight bit. I am going with 18x10 DD Bullitts and it should sit right with the fender and "should" clear the inner wheel well, shock, and LCA!
