Why can't car companies NAME their cars?

  1. Why is it these days most cars don't have NAMES anymore it's just a bunch of numbers and letters. Letters and numbers used to desginate engine sizes and trim packages.

Example I have a Mustang. My friend has a Mustang GT. Mustang - car has a name. Mustang GT - car has a name but the "GT" designates extras like bigger engine, fog lights, dual exhaust, etc.

Another example my mom has Chrysler Sebring LX. My Aunt has a Sebring LXi. The "i" in "LXi" means that it has leather interior instead of cloth.

    Here's a list of Number/Letter name cars.

Also what's with all the "series" and "R" (which is popular amongst ricers) cars?
  2. Much easier than finding a name for them. Also, if you named let's say the Mustang GT as the Mustang Butterfly, alot of people probably wouldn't buy it because of the name.
  3. Yeah but the "GT" just designates the trim package. If it was just the Ford Butterfly then yeah you'd have a problem. Or just don't pick such a panzy name.
  4. Ok, The GT would Be : The Rod :rlaugh:
  5. well in defense of the GT, it is modeled afterthe GT-40, so naming it anything else would be a traveshamockery. Yeah the letters and numbers thing is a trend, it'll be gone after a while. i much prefer this to GM's made up names they used. ( i owned a cutlass ciera, wtf is a ciera?)
  6. you have WAY to much time on your hands

  7. That statement coming from you is like Louie Anderson calling someone fat.

  8. Isn't that that hot black chick that sings "Goodies"?
  9. [IMG]
  10. i think thats ciara, and she was still shakin diapers when that car was made
  11. Personally i prefer the european car manufacturers to use a letter/ number combo compaired to names becuae i took german and some italian i know what sort of names would come from them in thier home language so i like it the way it is. imean i can actually say CLK500 but a 14 letter word with vowels no thanks
  12. A CiEra is, a far as I can tell, a Hispanic girl's name. But so is CiAra.

And OX I HAVE TOO MUCH TIME?! Look at the pot calling the kettle black.
  13. Even so, atleast andy did something with his time lol.
  14. yes, when europeans name a car with a name it comes out like Koenigsegg.. ACHH
  15. Fixed :D
  16. The only use this has done was waste time on a debate how about how wasted time was around here. And give zinc a chance to call GTs butterflies.
  17. :OT:
  18. no but it's true there's too many cars with letter number "names". And I just like to waste time.
  19. Don't forget the new Miata. Mazda took the Miata name off of it and they want people to call it just "MX-5" from now on. And the new Nissan Skyline GT-R is going to be called the Nissan GT-R.
  20. When I worked at Ford I heard the Ford Five-Hundred replaced the Ford Taurus but now they're changing it back to the Taurus because not many is buying it cuz of the name. I guess too fancy or expensive sounding or something

BTW the 500's CVT tranny's are Niiiiice
