Why did my dealer quote me 27,000 for 05GT? Anyone?

Hey guys,

Never posted here, but I used to make my home on the SN95 boards. Like many, I eagerly await the release of the new Mustang and hope, with a little luck, to get one in my driveway.

Unfortunately, I'm 19 and in college, and am certainly not made of money. I figure I can scrape together about 14k cash by June/July, and was told that I didn't neeed to be wait-listed; there would be a Mustang around for me. I could finance the rest as I have a good, albeit undeveloped, credit rating.

Naturally, you can imagine my dismay when I had my stepfather get a price quote on a 2005 GT Coupe before options and he was told 27,000. Here's the kicker: he was told that's what he could get it for. He used to work for the owner of the dealership in question, and due to their relationship, he only pays invoice for new cars.

27k invoice for a coupe with no options? What happened to 'same price as the current line'? Kelley Blue Book [invoice] on an 04' GT Coupe, no options, 22308 (including destination).

Can anyone hook me up with a Ford dealer that has it's price straight? Or knows what the hell is going on here? He talked to two seperate employees and they told him the same.

Thanks in advance,

-Jason

There is probably a combination of things going on here.

1. You are 19. These guys see a kid that might have some money and they try to soak them for everything. I know all too well. I checked out a car when I was 18 and the guy quoted me a price that I thought was a little high. My dad went to the dealership w/o me and the guy quoted him $1500 less.
2. Car dealers 9 times out of 10 are BS'ers, when they don't know the answer they make it up
3. that was probably MSRP, wait until it's actually released check the invoice price and expect to pay a little over that.

Just wait it out, after the first year of production they will work out all the bugs and the priceing might be able to slide a tad. As of right now regarding the pricing and option, there isn't enough solid information on the 05 GT. I'm 19 too, I was considering buying an 05 but i figured i'd buy a Mach instead

Don't worry lad. When gasoline prices soar to $3 and $4 a gallon NO Ford dealers are going to be able to sell the Mustang GT for $27,000. There will be Thousands of these cars sitting on the dealer lots. Be prepared to pay VERY LOW prices for the new Mustang GT. Mark my words. This car will not sell well if gas prices soar like they say they will. You will be able to get a really good deal on the Mustang when this happens. Dealers are going to have a rude awakening. It's going to be a buyer's market for the Mustang. And I'm very glad about this. I know that I will be able to pick up a brand new Mustang GT for cheap. It's just a matter of time before gas prices go over $3 and $4 a gallon. This will be good for us who want to get a really good deal on a new Mustang. :D :nice:

Have patience and you will pay next to nothing for a really fast Mustang GT. :nice: :D

Sure you may be able to buy it for cheap. But with gas prices that high. It's going to be an awfully nice door stop. Since no one will be able to afford to drive it.

When the 05 is released, peak travel season is over and gas prices will be way lower then the projected highs this summer. Dont bet on gas creating artificial discounts on the new mustang.

The reason they told you that is because they are obviously full of 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me'!

$27k invoice for a base GT? That would put MSRP around $30k. That means an '05 base GT has an MSRP comparable to an '04 vert GT premium. I seriously doubt that.

I imagine Ford will announce official pricing to the dealers at around the same time they announce it to the public. Anything you hear until then is speculation.

The GT as of last is suppose to be right around 20K. They are giving you that price because people are probably willing to pay that to get the new stang. Supply and demand. The dealerships are willing to sell the car for what people are willing to pay so don't be disappointed if the prices are initially really high. They will drop fairly soon. A good example are the WRXes and EVO8s.

I'd agree with you, but it was my step-father, age 49, (who used to own the detailing business that did this particular Ford lots' detailing) that got me the quote; I wasn't even there.

I would agree with you here Sic, if I hadn't seen and heard from several reputable sources (which I cannot cite from memory) that the new Mustangs would be the same price, or very close, to the current line. I was told they would end up being about $700 more than 04s from a guy I know that works for Ford. Now, 23208 = KBB blue book on a standard coupe '04 GT, so anything more than 24,000, to me, is way off.

I think Shatner is right on with the comparison to an '04, same thing I came up with and couldn't believe. The gas doesn't bother me because I don't drive much milage at all, but still am in need of a car asap, so waiting another model year is not viable really for me.

isnt the real ron jeremy loaded?

why in the hell would ron be concerned with getting a few bucks off of a mustang?

Where have you been? Dudes in porno don't make squat these days. It's the porno women who are getting all the money. Also consider how fat Ron Jeremy is. He spends all his money on food so he has to buy his Mustangs at the lowest possible price. :rlaugh: :rlaugh: :rlaugh:
