Why is it that gas prices have to keep going up?
Summers are always higher gas prices cause we drive more. Jumps up around spring break and major holidays. They go down in the winter, especially around christmas, because they want you to be in a good mood and feel like you have more money so you'll spend it.
Just my own conspiracy theory.
they said that last year and never lowered it back to where it was in the last part of winter. Then in the fall they say home heating will make it go up again. Then in winter they say that home heating and holiday travel increases demand. So they have to raise it again. And then it remains the same until summer where it goes up again cause of "increased demand"

Botom Line. It goes up all year and has been for several years now. It never goes down enough to matter cause soon as it goes down, it spikes back up. Exxon made something like $331 Billion in profits. This will be a major issue in the next presidential campaign.

Its a good thing its getting warmer out and I can start riding the Triumph again. Prices have shot up $.25/gallon here (to $2.78 or so)and my Fucus has been returning disappointing mileage since I bought it. Its the first car that I've had that I can't even hit the EPA City mileage on a regular basis. Hell, both of my LS1s could do better than this ZX3.

Yeah, then we'll all be on Stangnet talking about the hottest electric or hydrogen conversion kits for our vintage 'Stangs, etc.
my ZX3 pulls in 35mpg

This last increase that we had was in direct response to Iran pledging not to give up on their nuclear capability. It doesn't make any sense unrelated topics in the world affect gas prices sos much. I am still looking for that blood for oil I was promised by the liberals when we started bombing Iraq.

As long as gas refineries are privately owned, they'll screw us with the profit. I think they realized we'll pay whatever, so they decided to start charging whatever gets them the profit. THat's crazy...a record high profit. Gas should be run like a nonprofit organization, charge just enough to cover the costs of the service. Think about it....gasoline production should be a public service with the way this country depends on it....just like police, fire, etc.

collusion, that's why prices never go down...
collusion occurs at corporate level right down to the gas station...

instead of competing with eachother and getting into a price war--do just the opposite...keep prices at same levels and even increase at same levels...which takes away any alternatives the consumer may have...

But then the taxes go up even more.

Nah, I'm not saying use the taxes to run the production of gas....saying use the price of the gas itself. Like now...the price of gas includes the same things the price of everything includes. The cost of the raw materials, productions costs, marketing costs, management costs, and profit. Why not just take it all over and get rid of that profit.....that billions of dollars they profited this year. Everyone still gets paid to do their job, and gas would cost a "normal" price. I'm not much for govt controlling things, but somethings gotta give....and the next Prez better have a plan for something other than killing our soldiers.

It's not the stations faults, it's the big oil companies. The stations have to buy the gas at an already high rate, then raise prices more to make a profit. Most local station owners that are friends with people around here have told us they make profits of around 7 cents per gallon. 20 gallons only gives them (the station) $1.40 in profits. The big oil companies are making the killing on the prices.

Unless you know for sure what they pay for their gas then don't believe it. Gas stations around here raise and lower their prices in step with each other all the time. I think they make as much profit as anyelse involved in oil but are the closest to the consumer so they don't want to get ***** on.

Seriously tho. I don't like it anymore then anyoneelse. But honestly, what can we do? I just suck it up and pay for it.
Damn....

Might as well face the fact gas price will NEVER EVER go down to what it was 2 years ago.. Not as long as greedy stock holder of major oil company is happy.

And also as long as Mr. President is happy too as his family is an oil tycoon from what i understand...

I do not see gas price go down anytime in future at all anymore:nonono:

Do what i did. get a beater that gets at least 35mpg. You save money on gas and miles on Mustang.

Its crazy now days how high gas prices are now days..I can just see them being higher in other states but dang its like after 9/11 they juse rape everyone..But then there is not much we can do since we all need gas..

I dont think it has anything to do with 9/11. The best explanation i've heard is that the refinaries are at maximum capacity. However, exxon just realized its biggest quarterly profit ever, so someone ones making money.

Thats excatly what the email said. Just stop pumping gas at Exxon and go elsewhere.

Heres the email below.

GAS WAR - an idea that WILL work

This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola
executive It came from one of his engineer buddies
who retired from Halliburton. It's worth your
consideration.

Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit
close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might
go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We
need to take some intelligent, united action.

Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes
MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain
day" campaign that was going around last April or May!
The oil companies just laughed at that because they
knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by
refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience
to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever
thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us!

By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at
about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently
$2.79 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the
oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us
to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at
$1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to
teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace..not
sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we
are going to see the price of gas come down is if we
hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their
gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How?

Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop
buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if
we all act together to force a price war.

Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T
purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies
(which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their
prices. If they reduce their prices, the other
companies will have to follow suit. But to have an
impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon
and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now,
don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and
I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of
people!!

I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us
send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and
those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 =
3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches
the sixth group of people, we will have reached over
THREE MILLION consumers.

If those three million get excited and pass this on to
ten friends each, then 30 million people will have
been contacted! If it goes one level further, you
guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.
That's all!
(If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million
and all you have to do is send this to 10 people....
Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician.
But I am so trust me on this one.) :)

How long would all that take? If each of us sends

this
e-mail out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be
contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you
didn't think you and I had that much potential, did
you! Acting together we can make a difference.

If this makes sense to you, please pass this message
on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL
THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP
THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK

Uh you do know that ExxonMoblile owns some of the largest refineries in the U.S right?

If you don't buy from their brand it wouldn't matter, since they sell gas to Amoco, Citigo, Cheveron etc.....

Either way it's a BOHICA when you fill up (Bend over here it comes again).
