will brake cleaner destroy the powdercoat on my Performer intake?

Will it be OK if I spray down the entire upper intake with brake parts cleaner?

Depends on what kind you have, many of them will eat the finish off the intake and many will melt plastic. If you are trying to get grease off I would use Simple Green and a soft nylon brush.

I use it all the time on my truck, car, sleds, etc and have never had a problem with it.

If it only took brake clean to take the powdercoating off the intake, then I dont think people would be using Aircraft Paint Remover. Stock intake might have something different on it though if thats what you're running.

Good point. Overspray was the main concern because many of the brake cleaners will eat plastic and some types of rubber and can cause paint to discolor, but it may not effect powder coating the same way.

I'm wanting to clean a newer Edelbrock Performer EFI upper intake. It off the car with everything removed from it. So overspray is not a concern.

So it should it be OK, right?

Spray a little on a rag and wipe a little part on the bottom of the intake... Brake clean shouldn't hurt it

Sure enough, the brake cleaner ate some of the powdercoat off of the intake. I did use 2 cans on it, though. It bubbled it up around some of the edges, but mainly it was ok. I think that it did slightly dull the finish, too.

Another vote for simple green from this guy. Just coat it down, let sit for 30 seconds or so, then wipe off. I've been doing my entire engine with it for over a year now.
