Expired WTB, low miles 2.73 8.8 gears, maybe an LSD if the price is right.

Hi, I came here from this thread. https://www.stangnet.com/mustang-forums/threads/where-can-i-find-2-73-gears.511950/
You can laugh now.

I'm getting roadworthy a 87 F150 shortbed 4.9 T19 wide ratio
I have 3/4 of the parts LIFETIME at AZ from previous trucks and with a 300 straight six I could be driving it till they stop making gasoline!

The trans was swapped before I bought it and it's causing issues.
The current 3.55 gears make me look like an idiot driving it, but the idiot is really the guy who didn't match ratios for this awesome trans!
Instead of coming round a corner and dropping into 1st smoothly, it engine brakes and snatches the RPMs up.
SKKKKERK! VROOOM!
M5OD it is NOT! Had that POS in my last F150, never again.
https://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmissions/manual/t18-t19/

Good news? My redonkulous 6.32 granny gear is synced, and I can IDLE up the boat UP the ramp with it! (wreck tires, driveshafts, clutches and Ujoints)
It was also entertaining in the Ikea parking lot with ratty old glasspacks @4000rpm@6mph. Nice echo off the building and Volvo wagons.
Indestructibility, and cheap/easy rebuilding are other nice items on the menu.

Bad news? Constantly over revving the motor and I don't even want to talk about mpg! NO!
The highway is right out!

Gear calculators indicate that a 31" tire, 1/1 3rd gear, and 2.73 gears will yield around 1925rpm @ 65mph.
The 4.9 is best suited from 1000rpm to around 3500rpm, my old truck would run 5th almost down to idle LOL.

I need some gears!
Not sure if I need posts to PM here, I can be reached at my username @gmail, or txt 4ohhh7873won104
I live in Saint Cloud, FL, 34772
I have a larger than Bridgeport vertical mill, though my machining is amateur at best.
Thank you for letting me post here! (now I'm going to re-read the rules and see how many I broke)

Edited for clarity

Ok, I left out price.

The linked thread fairly indicated market value, and It's a WTB, so sellers name the price.
I heard $20 thrown around a bit in that thread, $75 on Ebay is WAY too high.
I'd rather help someone unload their shelf than pay a parts store, or Ebay.

Sorry I don't have a stang (really) but please take solace in knowing that I AM a die hard Ford man, just the straight six type.
I have a... um...a problem with going fast. Gsxrs and such, those days are over.

Edited for clarity, even just a little.

hmmm 2:73 S8.8's. were there any made by FoMoCo in that ratio ?
Word on the street is many/most v8 8.8 stangs were 2.73 factory.
I am not a stang guy, other than spanking a bunch in my Datsun 280Z, and have only gleaned this info from forums.
Could be totally wrong, see the tread I linked in the OP.

We dont mind ya hanging around at all, heck if the 300 weren't so long I'd have stuffed one into a mustang by now
Thanks, I've always been a gearhead, just never had the $$$ (or $$$$) for speed parts.

Now that I have a semi-capable machine shop, hopefully that will change.
If you can build it, they will come!

The only one that's missing is the 86 and it had the same gear ratios as the 87-89.

Nycueva asked why I want 2.73, so I'll repeat without the wordyness of the OP.

My F150 is equipped with the 300ci, or 4.9L straight six of Ford legend. Over-revving this motor is the only way to kill it. (i've run them out of oil)
My trans is a B&W T19, the ratios are aprox 6.32 -3.09 -1.68 -1 R -6.96. It's durability is above reproach.
8.8 rear, current ring and pinion 3.55, tire height 31".
This results in excessive RPMs at nearly any road speed, and horrendous MPG.

Gentlemen with similar transmissions (old 4spd/w/granny) have reported 18mpg with 2.73 gears, also an improvement in drive-ability.
Currently my truck drives similarly to the trans donor vehicle, an IH scout, or a small dumptruck, or a 1 ton NA diesel, etc.

I swapped in a 3.0X (smashed tag) rear from the parts truck, and freed up about 300rpm, but it needs more. (and that rear is beat)
Original rear is on the bench awaiting gears and a shiny new FoMoCo LSD unit.

I'm tired of fixing junk/w/junk, and am looking for fresh-ish 2.73 or 2.54 ring and pinion.

Why are you taking a rusty Mustang to the mud?

Wish I'd gotten some work done, but I've had to spend a lot of time forcing returns with sellers over descriptions, contents, etc.
Seller pretends that part # for the kit is really only a single part, dude, it's a Ford part#, they decide what's in the kit!
Miss-fit, MAJOR dent wheel in the set I ordered.
Mirrors only slightly inside the box when delivered, I can't re-plate the chipped chrome.
Summit acts like they can tell you to buzz off, but not on Ebay ;-)
Amazon has got my back too, click/print/return.
Rock auto has been spot on, they're ruining (Fedex ground) a new set of trim on the way to my house right now.

All these sloppy/copy/paste listing shenanigans have eaten some time, and some patience.

Still looking for some 2.73 gears :)

Looks like I'll be upgrading the rear to disk with Exploder disk backing plates. Might as well for $8/ea at the yard, $4 caliper brackets, $6 proportioning valve, and I already have to pull the axles anyway. I found rotors/pads/calipers for about $90 delivered, just need to redrill the rotor from 4.5x5 to 5.5x5.

Fortunately I'm equipped.

Still looking for gears, but I'm getting closer to just buying some.

I have a set of 2.73 gears out my 86 GT. Only reason I took them out was to upgrade to 3.73's. I took them out put them in the box from the 3.73's and they've been sitting in my shop since. The ring gear has 41 teeth, the pinion 15, and I don't have the nut for the pinion. I'm not 100% sure of the mileage, odometer reads 27K but I'm sure it's at least 127K. I swapped the gears a couple thousand miles ago. I'll do $20 shipped UPS if that sounds fair. And I can take more pics if you need me to. Let me know, thanks.
