Yeah, they were fast!

Some idioit in a new hyundai suv was all over my rear and decided he was going to cut over the rumble strips and beat me out onto the highway and cut me off.

That's my biggest pet peeve when driving. I'm a fast driver, but I don't get how people think it's ok to go around on the on-ramp and cut someone off getting on the highway.

I wish i drove a crappy car. I'd just outfit it in dash cams and let them hit me.

@Foxslider It depends on what you meant before autocorrect. You are giving him a hard time correctly, but I think you are not performing the right rite to worship the all mighty Ford Mustang.

@General karthief
I liked the looks of the 84 era Shelby Chargers. They were fun, especially for a K car.
The Hyundai Santa Fe (Turbo 4. 235 hp) that my wife had me test drive surprised me accelerating from 0-60. It certainly would outrun our mini van.
It took the big 3 a long time (Almost too long to stay in business) to figure out how to meet emissions and fuel mileage standards. I think we were lucky to not get a Mustang III in 1979.

Emphasis on WERE fast*

Now they wont fall outta tree.

Am i doing this rite?

I to to prevent that problem by using the gas pedal and upgraded sway bars. I wonder why there are often panicked looking face prints on the inside of my car’s windows.

That's exactly what happened.

The 79-81 'stangs were actually just as slow as or even slower than the Mustang IIs that preceded them. It wasn't until 1982 that performance started to rebound, and even then, a 1982 GT was only a couple of tenths of a second quicker than a '78 Mustang II with a V8 had been.

But the vinyl tops, ugly bumpers and colonnade styling of the Mustang II were not there. The car at least started out looking good from the lot, even with four eyes.

We gotta thing and it's called radar love(we get at least one ticket a year).Yes I'd like more power, and then so me more.Like Frank said "that's life".....

Wrong again. On every count.

I will not argue that you found the ugliest one available, with even the Metric TRX wheels that were a pain to get tires for. All it needs are bumpers from an Escort.
Thank goodness the plain package ones were more common. A friend’s bronze coupe looked nothing like that, and my black 5.0 hatchback just needed a later hatch spoiler and t-bird mags to look good. The Cobra cosmetics and Pace Car were the styling I am thinking of not being Mustang III more than this horrible example. And yes, I do remember the King Cobra II as being a step in the right direction.

I could've kept going until I found one with either the F150-like hubcaps or the wire hubcaps, but the TRX felt right, even if not the worst.

My point is, the 79-81 cars were no real upgrade over the II, in any department, and were actually worse in some respects. 1982-84 made things interesting, but they neither looked good nor were truly "fast" until 1985. For all of Ford's marketing and forum fanboi revisionist history, the truth really is that simple.

#1 I ain't slow'n down on the coffee, Keurig is working on a intravenous coffee system
#2 the 1989 mustang was introduced with a few new colors, the 'batwing' mirrors for the vert and mass air for all, so no magazine was going to review them, the camaro was so anemic, heavy and the only V8 was the Z28 with, wait for it......wait for it... a wopping 170 hp!!! And it cost a bunch more too.
And the Dodge Boys didn't have :poo:, well, there was a program with turbo 4cyls that even shelby dabbled with but nobody cared.
#3 lets compare apples to apples, lets continue with the 1985 theme.
1985 300zx 0-60 7.2 sec, slightly heavier and cost more, a lot more, with a V6 and 220 hp it is the closest competition in america.
1985 toyota supra, I found that this one needed more research only because there are several versions, basically 16-18 k in price with 170hp and the best 0-60 time was 9.8 sec. A little lighter than the zx, I sure I could have found more accurate info but I'm making a point.
I chose these vehicles as they where the closest competition for the mustang market, I didn't spend a lot of time researching because the point I am making, to the one or two that are reading this is the 1985 mustang was stiff competition off the showroom floor.
Now for those that are going to compare 1985 (or pick your favorite fox body year) to newer cars, yes, even a prius is probably faster but it is not a fair comparison.
If you compare a mustang of any year, even the mustang ll, to their respective competition they are a force to be reckoned with.
So yeah, they were fast.
In 1989 I decided I was going to buy a "sports" car. I first looked at the Camaro, but found out the cheapest way to get into a V8 was to buy an IROC and the biggest V8 I could get was a 305. So I looked at the Mustang and found out I can get a faster car for less money. I had that car for 12 years and never should have gotten rid of it. I've never looked back.

You would be appalled at how many chrome wire hubcap sets I sold between 89 and 94 at Napa, Carquest and Autoworks. I am not sure why they were hot Items for so long.
Hell, I was still selling them in the early 2000s at Advance. Those crappy-looking copies of the already ugly 80s F150 hubcaps too!

The early foxes had a four-lug version of that thing.

:puke:

Now, when the copies of the mid-90s Super Duty hubcaps became a thing... Well, sales of that 80s F150 hubcap dried up overnight!

Styling is always subjective, but I actually like the 82 GT with the front air dam. They are slow as balls, though.

The 87-93 foxbody was always a giant killer.
I ran a 13.6 with a 2.25 offroad H pipe (bet you didn't even know that existed, i got it for $25 at the local mustang junkyard, and it was real, not welded together).
BFG tires.
75mm pro m meter.
K&N in the box
Underdrive pullies
and 3.73's.

As mike said, a fox with those simple parts reined supreme until advent of the LS1.
Honestly, the only other thing you would ever lose to was another foxbody.
Even LT1 corvettes were crap.
You could even buy a ferrari 348 and lose to some juvenile jackass in a fox in 1993.

The foxbody was one of those cars you either learned how to really drive in, or you wrecked it...

Yeah it was a sloppy handline dangerous torquey mess that no parent should let their teenager buy, but that's what made it so great.

I did have a thing for iroc's and formula's too, but for some reason i just had to have a foxbody.
Oddly enough, we didn't really call them foxbody's back in the day.

You can smash the windshield, hit every corner with a hammer, curb the wheels, and leave it in the desert Sun for a decade till that bad vinyl roof completely cracks and peels off,.......... and it will still look better than any new mustang II ever did.
And he jumps in here and picks on the ll's!!!!
Way to go
