1971 Ford Mustang with 619,284.5 miles and counting

Richard Fuchs in his 1971 Ford Mustang

No.  It isn’t a typo.  You are setting eyes upon a man and his faithful Ford Mustang–one that’s served him well for almost 40 years.  With the hopes of putting 400,000 miles on his pony car when he bought it brand new for $3,310, Richard Fuchs has more than broken his own record; he’s set the bar…quite high.  Fuchs is a crafty inventor by trade and a passionate hobbyist by method.  He holds several patents for his inventions and if you take a trip to visit the keen fellow, you’ll be sure to see plenty of eye-widening tinkerings.  Over the years in his 1971 Ford Mustang, Fuchs has sought to achieve what most muscle or pony car owners never care to: fuel economy.  By keeping his car clean, maintained, and caring for every minute detail, he’s been able to keep his Mustang efficient and mostly original over the last 38 years.  Hop over to the NY Times to get the full story…it’s one worth sharing.

Vaughn Gittin Jr at the 45th Mustang Anniversary

Hey Ford Mustang fans, here is a hot scoop, straight from the good folks at Ford Racing–it’s Vaughn Gittin, Jr. tearing up a set of tires at the 45th Anniversary celebration of the Ford Mustang.  We were able to see it first-hand and we’ve gotta say–it was quite the impressive smoke show at Barber Motorsports Park (Alabama) that day!  This is one clip you won’t want to miss!

Ford’s SVT Raptor – Born in Baja

2010 Ford F150 SVT Raptor

What is this? Has the StangNet staff gone mad? Posting a truck on the home page? Not mad; flat-out impressed. While the 2010 Ford SVT Raptor isn’t exactly “news” any longer, we did stumble upon a video clip regarding the upcoming SVT Raptor development documentary and just knew we had to share it to our fellow Ford fans out there. This hi-po variant on the Ford F-150 is an insanely capable off-road machine equipped to handle the dunes, let alone the grocery or home improvement store. The whole upgrade from the base F-150 the Raptor receives is pretty amazing: power (320hp / 390 lb-ft), suspension, trim, and yeah…power. Did we mention power? Yeah, the heart of a 5.4 liter V8 as well as a savage 6.2 liter V8 have been prepped for insertion. Continue Reading →

Ford Mustang 45th Anniversary celebration
2010 Classic Design Concepts front spoiler featured.

After this past whirlwind of a weekend, we have barely had enough time to sit down, reflect, and think about what just happened at the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the Ford Mustang in Birmingham.  Now, on a Monday afternoon, it’s all starting to soak in.  We ran into thousands of Mustang fans, hundreds of vendors, hung out at the CDC booth (assisted in some installations!), caught some sweet racing at Barber, and of course, caught a feast for the eyes (hot cars) as well as the belly (good, down-home cooking).  Most importantly, we were able to share about 95% of the 45th Mustang Anniversary LIVE with you, the Ford Mustang enthusiast community.  Between our twitter coverage and live video, we did our best to make sure fans were able to see what they wanted to, regardless of attending the celebration. Saleen: “Prior Warranty? No Problem.”

Steve Saleen to Honor Past Warranties on Vehicles

Contending with bad PR these days is seemingly the new norm. To many owners, the collapse of Saleen, Inc was a shock and a major let-down, and it left many wondering what they were to do going forward.  After Steve Saleen ventured off on his own with SMS Limited, there seemed to be even less hope in the eyes of Saleen owners and Ford Mustang fans alike.  Yesterday, however, a little bit of confidence was restored in the Saleen brand of times past, with Steve Saleen announcing that his new venture would honor existing owner warranties on cars and aftermarket parts.  Check out the specifics on how owners can get their claims made in the official press release from SMS Supercars.
