There is no doubt the upcoming Need for Speed movie is going to be a total thrill ride. Yeah, it might sound a little trite to say this, but seriously. The 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang. A gaming movie set to pay homage to amateur speed fetishes, chase scenes from Hollywood past, and let’s not forget–simply awesome sports & super cars. Did we mention the Mustang is making yet another silver screen appearance. Right. Got it.

It might come as a surprise to some, but to those following the overall 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang saga unfold all this time, it really isn’t that dramatic to bear witness to. What’s that, one might ask? It’s the attention to detail we are witnessing Ford pour into their latest rendition of the prized pony car on the eve of its half-century historical marker. The 2015 Mustang prototypes passed all around the proving grounds & test labs have been subjected to plenty of grueling procedures to ensure this is going to be one for the record books.
Will an instrument cluster swap work on my 2001 Cobra? Can I lower my car and not have to worry about caster camber adjustment my first time out on the road course? What is the original paint code for my 1986 LX ‘notch?
These are but a few of the questions we’ve all seen…plenty of times, posted in Ford Mustang forums all over the ‘net. This week, during our surfing for something else (isn’t that how it always goes???), we stumbled upon a cool technical resource for Mustang fans & readers, alike. It’s a Q&A column over at Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, and it offers up solid tech advice, covering a myriad of topics of common interest to even the seasoned enthusiast. Head over there, and check out their latest installation!
There’s nothing quite like that brand new roll of adhesive tape, straight from the cellophane wrapping, is there? That sweet, tangy aroma of the glue; the squeaky-clean backing…it all comes together, and suddenly, the world is your oyster, ready to be adhered together. You know what we’re talking about…
And when it comes to design concepts in the automobile world, coming up with sleek lines and edgy touches to any given car concept, guess what is commonly used in providing a base for the keystone of design? You got it–TAPE!
“Great design is about proportions,” explains Kemal Curic, Ford exterior design manager. “From the beginning, we need to focus on creating the right structural lines – the skeleton of the car. Then our job is to tailor the vehicle body to enhance the figure. This is a process of editing every single line to find the perfect balance of concave and convex angles. We achieve this on the clay model, and tape is what we use to decide which lines to move.”
So, with all the high-tech design capacity today’s technological world offers, Ford Mustang designers still relied upon a faithful stand-by to get the job done. Simply. Awesome.
“Tape gives us a defined line that is like a carpenter laying a level line on a building,” said Larry Pelowski, Ford master modeler, exterior design. “So when the designers put tape on the model, there is no question what their intent is.”
Just how important was tape to the design of the new 2015 Mustang? So significant such that the design team consumed enough bonding strips of magical adherence, it would result in a span of 155 miles if placed in linear fashion. Too cool!
Seriously. Pinball. Mustang. Do we really need to say much more here? We’re not sure about the ADHD gamer generation which is up & coming (maybe already here in droves?), but it’s one thing old-school game players will enjoy; and the StangNet team is totally stoked to see something like this come out.
A Chicago-based group, Stern Pinball, is going to create a brand new Ford Mustang themed pinball machine for sale to distributors and individual buyers, alike. And this isn’t just some run-of-the-mill gaming machine hack job, here, folks–it’s the real deal, licensed by Ford and will give total credence to the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang, covering elements of its legendary past…and its promising next generation of design & excitement.
Wanna see more? Keep going to check out the video and the Press Release…or you could get out (now!) to the Chicago Auto Show, beginning February 6th, 2014.
Got your Christmas gift money all counted? Ready for your tax refund yet? Prepared to sign on the line for that 50th Anniversary pony car we all have been waiting for? That’s right, every day we endure the silliness of the polar vortex brings us one day closer to Production Day for the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang. Rumor has it (yeah, we know) pre-orders will be taken for the 6th-generation in May, with production to follow in August (est 11th). As for deliveries, eager 2015 Mustang owners are expected to get the keys in their hands sometime during 3rd quarter 2014.
The 2015 Mustang production also heralds another change; the final 5th-generation Mustang will cease production as early as June 20, 2014, closing off another amazing chapter in the Mustang’s heritage & history.
Guess what new-found “world car” is about to join the ranks of many others which have graced posters in many motorheads’ garages-offices…the 2015 Ford Mustang is going to set the pace all the way to India to undergo a right-hand conversion. Ford will soon have a car in company with brands such as Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, and several others on the roadways of India. The only serious question remaining is a question of “when” and another of “hey, is this actually for real?”–because, let’s be honest here; we’ve all swallowed some jagged little pills from the rumor mill for better than half a year now when it comes to Ford Mustang news items.
So while it’s pretty cool to see Ford taking this pony car to the world market, it’ll be another thing to see how the car actually does when it comes to cultural acceptance and actual practicality. India, bluntly put, isn’t exactly an ideal location or target audience for a car that screams “loud pipes save lives” and requires more than being trapped in traffic for 2 hours in order to enjoy it.
Time will tell, as cliche as it sounds…
Make no mistake, the 2015 Ford Mustang has already been making waves, and is sure to make many more as we continue to creep closer to the showroom debut of the car, and the exuberant test drives which are sure to come. What’s interesting this last week in all things 2015 Mustang is that the very first production unit went up for auction at Barrett-Jackson, and brought in $300,000. Yikes. Really?
Being the first one off the line, Ford had to make sure something special marked the occasion, and what better way than to slide the equivalent of some small nation’s GDP towards a charitable cause–the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
One of the other, somewhat less spell-binding takeaways, is that the winning bidder get to fully personalize their new 2015 Mustang GT with any choice of options available on the 2015 Mustang model. Want more? Keep reading to check out the rest of the details in the PR…
It’s not even entirely ready for mass-distribution, and it’s already winning awards. The 2015 Ford Mustang was able to nab a Design award at the Detroit auto show, almost a week ago. We’ve seen this car come from the span of complete rumor, to rendered speculation, and now…production & forthcoming
burnouts sales. What’s the big deal, you say?
Well, it’s not every day you hear about a regular production muscle/pony car having its 50th birthday, winning Design awards mostly reserved for extreme concepts, and keeping the tradition of American automotive history alive and well, for many miles and years to come. I mean, c’mon, the Camaro kept the heartbeat thumping from 2003 to 2009, right? Sorry, closet bow tie boy & girls; I had to let that one slip out…
