2012 Ford Mustang Mid America Shelby Meet

Is everyone ready for an incredible display of Ford Mustang awesomeness?  How about a memorable Shelby Mustang event and tribute?  If both (or either) of these sound good, then you’d better get to packing your bags and fueling the steed(s) for the 38th Annual Mid-America Ford Nationals, in Tulsa.  Ford is set to unleash the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500–you know the 200mph capable one–and host open track days, put on a Ford & Shelby banquet, and build many memories for the years to come.

So when and where is this all going down?  June 13 through 17 (2012) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Trust us, we were at the show last June with Built to Cruise, and we’ve gotta say it was one of the most entertaining and fun-filled events of the summer.  Between the amazing Shelby Mustang (and many other unique instances) display, good food, and camaraderie, Tulsa & Hallett Raceway held host to some amazing times, both on AND off the track.

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 launch control detailed

If you haven’t taken a Ford Mustang with seriously respectable power to the track, then you are definitely missing out.  What’s more, if you have, you know what a feat it is to get just that “perfect launch”…because it means everything in the ET.  For the 2013 Shelby GT500, however, life just got a little easier at the track.

Ford has equipped the 2013 GT500 with a brand new launch control make sure every launch is fluid & efficient, every single time.  A recombinant recipe of traction control and engine tuning ensure that the suspension, tires, and weight-shift are balanced when the powertrain is producing substantial power, in order to achieve “maximum thrust” (as SVT engineers put it).

While launch control might not seem like anything all that novel or special in the autosports realm, as-is applied to the 2013 GT500, the more promising thought to hold is that we could see this feature as an option, or perhaps even standard when the 2015 Mustang makes its presence known on the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang.  Now that is something to get excited about.  For now, check out more details in the official Press Release from Ford Motor Company.

BREAKING: Ford Mustang legend Carroll Shelby dies

If you haven’t caught it yet on social media outlets, we’re here to share some sad news in the Ford Mustang world, everyone.  As the headline states, we’ve lost Carroll Shelby from this land and he’s no doubt headed to the 1320′ strip in the clouds for the hereafter.  Shelby passed away at age 89 yesterday, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.  As of this point, we know he was not doing well health-wise, but the official terminal cause has not been released.

The automotive magnate of all things Mustang, and other Detroit muscle, will be sorely missed as one of the legends…one of the greats…one who shaped the automotive industry AND aftermarket then, now, and the future.

Hats off from StangNet, Carroll Shelby.  Your presence will be sorely missed by many.

2009 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 disintegration

Every Ford Mustang wrench-turner knows one of the first steps in any engine swap is to first remove the original power plant.  This takes careful planning, time, choice swear words, and bloody knuckles on occasion.  Well, a most-fortunate Utah woman found a rapid deploy (and “safe” in this case, thankfully) methodology for removing the engine for dis-replacement.  Shannon Welch was at the wheel of her 2009 Shelby GT500 when she made some choice navigational moves near I-15 at mile marker 16.  Her driving behavior led to her Ford Mustang careening about and successfully demolishing all things there abouts, launching the GT500’s V8 motor into the front of the vehicle behind her.  Yikes!

The good news: Miss Welch and two others involved in the GT500 disembowelment were not harmed.  The bad news: the Shelby GT500 (pictured ab0ve) cannot say the same.

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has most powerful production V8

It’s no surprise the Ford Mustang and its many variants continue to make global headlines & history, time and again.  So what’s the latest & greatest???  The 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 is now officially the world’s most powerful production V8.  Wait, what?  Yeah, you read that right.  The 2013 GT500’s supercharged 5.8-liter V8 produces an SAE certified rating of 662 horsepower and 631 lb-ft of tail-twisting torque.  That’s freaking awesome!

What’s more, the 2013 Shelby GT500 belts out the additional 112hp vs the 2012 Shelby GT500 while at the same time, increasing fuel economy by 1 mpg in the city and on the highway…at a rate that’s 5mpg better than the Government Motors Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

2012 Ford Mustang Shelby rated at 1000hp

What’s that saying about a picture’s worth a 1,000 words?  OK, well, how about one that is worth 1,000 horsepower, then?  The next rendition of Shelby’s Ford Mustang massage found in the 2012 Ford Shelby 1000–a Shelby GT500, amped & tweaked out with some healthy modifications.  How–you might ask?  Start by taking the current GT500 and completely ripping it to shreds down to the connecting rods to the brake pads.  Ford’s 5.4-liter power plant, adorned with a boasting supercharger and fantastic tune pretty much makes this Shelby one of the most venomous serpents that’s hit the streets.

So, is this one the best?  Is this the ceiling we have been waiting to see break?  A 1000hp Mustang from a mainstream aftermarket producer?  While the PR photo above might not portray the entire truth, we can all agree–this one is going to storm the pavement and make some serious tracks in the ever-growing Ford Mustang stampede.

Shelby GT350 Ford Mustang pool table

What do you get the Ford Mustang fan that seems to have it all?  Something big.  Something unique.  Something that, quite frankly, makes a statement no other piece on the aftermarket novelty scene can remotely touch.  So how about a billiards table resembling a 1965 Shelby GT350 Mustang?  Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The pool table itself isn’t just a flowery rendition of the class Ford Mustang–nor is it some cheap knock-off from a tissue paper catalog.  This game platform is the real deal, produced in limited number, and each is autographed by Carroll Shelby, also.

Keep reading to get the rest of the scoop on this off-beat, but still pretty dang cool, Ford Mustang pool table.

2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 convertible officially at 650hp

We all know the Ford Mustang variants holding the Shelby nameplate are sure to attract attention and notoriety from production onto the after life in Leno’s basement.  This go ’round, the new 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 Convertible is back to mark-up the Ford Special Vehicle Team (SVT, for the acronym fiends) and its 20th Anniversary.  As if the 2013 GT500 convertible wasn’t awesome enough in vanilla form, the optional Performance Package makes this venomous snake nearly 3.5 seconds quicker at Sebring than last year’s model.  Impressive!  How so, you might ask?  Key features making the feat a reality are the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 (650hp), Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, and Brembo braking are just a few helpers along the way.

There are a few other nifty features Ford’s applied to this Shelby GT500 rendition–keep reading to see it all in the official Press Release from Ford.
