It'd be ok if it was the real thing. I had my daughter shooting my 44 Mag, when she was 10 years old. (I stood behind her and had my hands on hers, for support. She eventually ended up shooting it without my my close support anyway, though.) She shot everything in the arsenal and was very proficient with my little Glenfield Model 60 22lr. (Knocking the primers out of 12ga hulls, from about 40 yards.

Wouldnt bother me either, but some people would be like "OMG you are so irresponsible"
Shes shot my .22 pistol before though. She loved it.
My dad had me shooting when I was a youngster. Bought me a Smith & Wesson .22 revolver to plink around with. But before that, he made sure I understood gun safety and had me practice with a BB gun pistol first.
Let them cry, if I ever have a child he/she would be allowed to to shot if he/she wanted too. Safety would be practiced for at least a year with blanks or BB gun before the real ammo would be allowed and only under my or my wifes supervision.
i've had a bb gun since i was 5 or 6 and got my first shotgun when i was 9 (started shooting dads when i was younger) the way dad sees it is the safest way for us to keep them in the house with kids is let them shoot and for him to teach us to do it safely and at a young age.
