Offroad X Or H Pipe?

I know the question of offroad x or h pipes has been thrown around a lot and asked a lot so I know what the differences are and what they are going to give you. However, I can't decide which route to go because I have gotten mixed opinions about which would be better with the system I am going with and instead of trying to relate general information to my exhaust system, I thought I'd see if anyone has heard or has the system I am trying to upgrade to. So I currently have stock headers and a stock mid pipe, and I am running the Borla ATAK catback system on my 2000 mustang gt. But I am upgrading to BBK ceramic long tube headers, and am trying to figure out if the BBK shorty offroad x or h pipe will give me the best sound with my Borla catback system. Does anyone have longtube headers with either of these mid pipes and the Borla ATAK catback? or does anyone have some insight to which would sound best?

From what I've read, it seems like H pipes will maintain the deeper muscle car sound that comes with our cars. X pipes will offer a more race car sound, being a bit more raspier. Both will sound nice though with your Borla, imo. In terms of performance the X pipe will out perform the H pipe, but not enough to pick one over the other based on that purely. The gains are too small to notice. Pick the one that sounds best to you! I'm going H pipe and LT headers personally :)

Yeah I am leaning towards the h pipe because I like that deep muscle car sound, I'm not so worried about the power gains like you said the differences are minuscule in comparison!

H if you want the deep sound, X if you enjoy the raspy rice sound. Not trying to offend the X pipe crowed but I have used both on the 4.6L and the x pipe lasted 2 weeks before I took it off for a H. My application tho was a offroad X and H, it may sound better/different with cats.

Yeah I'm going with an off-road for sure, so I think the h pipe will give me the sound I'm looking for

Mac Lt's, Lethal Perfromance off-road x-pipe, to Magnapacks out the sides! I love it!! lol I too like some of you guys have had both of the the H and X pipes but favor the x pipe because it sounds very mean american muscle but with a exotic race car thrown in on top of it lol. Just personal preference.... but i love my setup n sound!! :)

Cheers! :)

Nice setup! I almost went with the magnapacks myself. So you prefer the off-road x then? Have you ran both or just the x?

I have had quite a few 99-04 2v 4.6 stangs and have done and tried every different mod setup and know a thing or two about 99-04 Mustangs lol. I have ran jba shorties ( pretty much better looking stock manifolds n waste of $ ) with Magnaflow off road H pipe and it sounded old school deep rumble and throaty then wanted to try an off road x pipe and loved that 3x as much as i did the previous setup. That was the only car i ran shorties on. The rest of my stang have all had long tubes usually Mac ( rite now have mac ) , JBA's that i really liked, and Pacesetters with off road h and x pipes and still prefer the x pipe all day because it just has that extra happy sound to the ears and gets a ton of compliments from people when im out n about. Funny were talking about this because i was at my doctors office turning in new ins info and the office manager lady said she was leaving work and saw me get in my car and said then watched my take off and it sounded BAD ASSS!! lol. But ya basically it's just personal preference and everyone likes what they like..

The 2v 4.6 motor may not be as fast outta the box , but i think we can all agree it is one of the best sounding engines with just a basic catback kit on em. That's what got me hooked on em back in my day day late 90's/junior high for me and got my first one 00! Goodtimes back in the day lol ha ha.

Oh, Fyi... Stay away from Bbk long tubes ( biotch to install/quality isn't great either/pricey ), and Pacesetters unless you are really nickel n diming it bro. Pypes is a newer company and they sell long tubes, off road h and x pipes, catbacks, and also single mufflers or race bullet resonators. I would have to say in my experience and quality products that JBA is my #1 and #2 is Mac and #3 probably would be Pypes because of $ and they back their stuff. I know Kooks are Kingshizz but hell no because they are crazy high price and alot of that $ is just for the Kooks name! Lemme know whatcha do bud and take care!

Cheers :).

Yeah I haven't had a lot of experience modding my car, but I've heard good things about JBA and Mac! I get most of my stuff off of American Muscle and the BBK's were a popular seller so I just thought I'd go with those but thanks for the tip! Now I'm looking at the JBA long tube headers with the o/r JBA h pipe, and the Mac long tube headers but they have the o/r x pipe

And the pro chamber, and I'm not sure how the pro chamber sounds in comparison

Ya,about that with the Mac Lt's either go with the Prochamber mid pipe ( everyone raves aout it like it's gold. but off rd x pipe sounds soo much better and CHEAPER!!) or Leathal Performace x pipe ( Same one im running now ) for mac lt's and i think Americanmuscle has the mac shorty off rd x pipe for mac lt's for $159ish.. Just check those out and im sure if you google you'll find alot more bud. Best a luck stay in touch bro.
P.S. I wasn't down grading the Mac Prochamber cuz it does sound awesome and has a really unique sound/tone on it's own. but for the $ it's like $300 plus some not worth it to me when you can get a bad ass sounding x pipe for $125ish.. just my two cents bud.

Cheers :)

I would choose BBK over Mac products every day of the week. My past Mac exhausts have all sounded good, but I haven't owned a Mac product that fit correctly yet. Every one either leaked, or needed to be "tweaked" in order to prevent a leak.

Running a set of BBK long tubes on my fox body currently and they fit great.

My last 2V was running a set of Kooks mid-lengths. Probably the best quality header I have ever used, hands down.

Couldn't agree more Kooks is #1 top notch, but they are too $ for the average consumer and younger people ( 20's, 30's ) that mod their cars more than the older corporate big wigs that go to the Porsche dealership and by a turn key Porsche and go. If they cut the $ by $150, $100 at the very least it would be better. But most are gunna go with Mac, Pypes, Bbk, etc because #1 they can put the $ they wi save into another mod or put it towards a future mods savings bank kinda deal. Every set of Mac Lt's has been pretty painless and i like em ( header no matter the brand in the cars isn't the funnest project in the world ) lol. I have personally installed 3-4 sets if Macs one had some annoying tendencies here n there but that's it. I have done two sets a Pypes both with buddies a mine who have 2v 4.6's as well and good build quality but hard to get in and fit just right! Did one Bbk install an never again! and it was with my buddy at the time who was a Ford mechanic and just never again.. lol haha.

Cheers :)

X pipes are louder and raspier than the H pipes and I believe they have slightly more power. On the other hand, An H-pipe is better at balancing sound and it also produces a more consistent growl.
