Now I'm not against a live axel Mustang, Thats cool that it is still offered, but the Mainstream stangs should have IRS, leave the live axel to a special drag racing edition. IRS can be done fairly cheap if it is in the design from day one.
SVTdriver said:American RWD and then you mention 350z and rx-8 does Chevy or Daimler/chrylser build those? It is coming on cars that start at what the mustang fully loaded goes for. Have you seen the cost of optoins on the mazda? For their grand touring package. It's a $4k option!! ouch! Those cars easily hit the $30k level. And still don't have the power of the mustang gt. There are still cars out there that have solid rear axles as well. Ford chose to develope a better chassis and body. They didn't have the resource to put it in the mustang affordably. Bummer but people can still breathe without it. Nobody has tested this new suspension to see how it handles. I realize this is an if. But what happens if the new suspension is actually better than an IRS suspension? And has lighter weight added. Before we bash the solid axle why not wait until we have real ideas of how it handles. Instead of living in the past complaining about it's bad handling and complaining that it didn't get IRS?
SVTdriver said:As for based on the LS chassis you don't know that for sure. That chassis may not even have allowed for a live axle. And what exactly is your point. I'm sorry to sound so harsh. But everytime you bring up IRS you use cars that can easily beat the mustang in price. Yet you don't want that as a factor in the debate. But it is a factor. Pricing the mustang gt like a GTO would impede it's chances of selling well. The G-35 and 350z are less powerful than the mustang gt but in stripped form are as expensive as a loaded gt.

Correction: I wish Detroit would build something that would go like that!!! I don't care for Asian cars (can't afford the repair bills).... Would have been GREAT if the new Mustang were in that class, but with 2+2 seats. >sigh<
I was SO wishing Ford would build a Mustang for this century. I've always liked Mustangs (well, except for the pentangs of the 70). Guess I'll have to keep waiting. And driving my imported Formula a bit longer - along with the 65 when the weather is good.
