rotating intake? huh?

It is usually done to ease the installation of intercooler pipes for a front
mount. That way it's a straight shot into the cooler from the turbo and
then the cooler to the throttle body. It's also less area to fill.

Most people do it because they have a FMIC...front mounted intercooler...It makes it alot easier to pipe the air into the TB. I don't think you will get any hp increase because it is not really changing anything. There are quite a few modifications that need to be done from my understanding. It is not worth it on an N/A. Save your time and money for a turbo motor. Unless you plan to get a turbo motor with a FMIC, then it may make since to do it now to simplify things down the road.

this is on a 93 LX 2.3L n/a also

Its pretty much for the 83-88' turbo cars with the square intakes or simular earlyer turbo 2.3L. The twin plug DIS 2.3L (90-93') I don't believe you can rotate them, not a lot of people turbo charge them anyways. I think the DP intakes was done the way they are to aide in changing plugs may self, but not sure. Please correct me on this guys if I'm wrong.

***They did use the square intakes on a few other engines I think like the 89 mustangs and up to the 92 Rangers, but don't quote me on those years and
cars/trucks ****

Mikesvo's site I think, talks about how its rotated and a little on why its done. That other link has some for sale, that has some good pics as well as the one shown here

Hope it helps.

Since you are swapping, I would assume you'll be using the square intakes. It would be a huge pain to rotate the inline upper for the 91-93 DIS engines. Here's a pic of my rotated upper on my turbo engine. If you are using an aftermarket front mount intercooler, it may be beneficial to rotate it and then be able to shorted the intercooler pipes. However, I'm not so sure that the difference is worth the cost, especially in a stock setup. All I know is that I sure glad I didn't have to fab the intercooler pipes to come around to the throttle body in a stock position!!

im gonna be using a 86 TC engine, volvo FMIC. if its no gain then i wont bother rotating the upper intake. also, off topic, i wouldnt mind using my dual plug head on the 86 TC swap, im assuming this would call for alot of work seein theres no distrib on 91-93 dual plug heads but are on the 86 TC motors.

I'd never run a DP DIS head on a turbo engine. That head flows very poorly, and does not have enough material to be able to port it enough so it does flow well. Many people on turboford are using them, but I pretty much see it as starting with a handicap from the get-go. Just my opinion.

im full of questions tonight, also where could i get a trac lock for my stock (7.5?) rearend, limited slip ****nit sucks so bad. or will i need to upgrade to the 8.8 rearend n e ways with the swap?

I believe the 83-86'TC has this rear end. In 87-88' they went to the 8.8. I'm not sure how much different it is to swap out with the 83-86'TC's but Stingers site has a swap on a 87-88 you can check out it maybe about the same for the 83-86'TC's.

P.s I gave up on swaping a turbo using the DP DIS set up. It can be done, but its a pain and I don't think the head is a good design for a turbo. Here is a link of a guy that has done this to his ranger and is real nice. :nice:
