I am having a problem with my transmission..... it seems to be slipping when i put the car in reverse or in gear i usually need to give it some gas for it to get into gear or if im crusing i need to let off for it to shift...its an auto... also if i need to come to a quick stop sometimes the car shifts outta gear and into nuetral.. i was told it could be a clogged filter or a shot tranny i know finacially theres a huge difference but i figured i would ask here since im sure someone has had or heard of this problem...

secondly after question 1 is fixed i wanna convert to 5 lug and put 02gt bullit rims on my car i have heard lincoln front rotors and ranger axels would work can anyone confirm this and will i have to switch anything else over ie..master cylinder or anything?

thanks for any feedback you can give me sorry for the newb questions but i gotta find out somewhere..

do a search under brake upgated on this forum, there is a guy named matt bobbit, who has a website that will tell you all you need to know

Take it easy on that tranny, its prolly not going last too much longer. You could try changing the filter and fluid, but from my experience the tranny is about shot if it has enough debris in it to clog a filter. You have checked the fluid, right? Is it brown and burnt smelling, or red and clean? Many times if you change some burnt fluid, it will stop working very soon afterwards. So it may be best if you leave it alone.

I dont really know too much about these AOD transmissions. I am guessing that its electronically shifted like many of todays autos. Time to convert to a 5-speed if you ask me. That or a C4, I hate AODs. Good luck.

Being that I've blown up more than my share of ford (E4OD), chevy (4L60E) and probably a dodge before the warranty is up (RE47 i think...maybe???) anyway if it's on it's way out don't change the fluid or try to service it. Like was previously stated, it's not going to be able to handle the fresh fluid, I can't give a technical reason but it has something to do with the fluid breaking down when it gets old and burnt and it thins out. Save up some $$$ and do a 5 speed swap.

thank you for the input i thought about doing a t5 swap my old notchback was a t5 and it was a blast i couldnt pass on the deal i got the gt for... but anyway is there a site or does soemone know the parts needed for the swap or a estimated price?

thanks

The reason that new fluid will destroy a trans that has never been serviced, is because of pressures. The old fluid does not create as much pressure because the heat has broken it down. IT also does not condition the seals any longer as it should when fresh, because all of its properties have bee fried (no pun). When new fluid is placed in the tranny, the pump pushes the hell out of it and it blows the seals inside of the transmission to pieces.

I've blown my fair share of them too.... only they were on Chevy's/ I went through six transmissions in one year in my 79 Monte Carlo, two in my Regal, two in the truck and three in the Camaro. One of the reasons I switched to FORD.
