I've been working on installing my headers the past couple days off and on. I've probably spent 5 hours total. Tonight I was going to finish the passenger-side header and mount the starter. Thats where I ran into trouble. One of the primaries is in the way a little bit and I need to dimple the tube. I really, really do not want to remove the header. What I was wondering is if a propane torch would heat it up enough so that I can hammer it a bit and dimple it?

I think that would work.

One other thing you might try is drive it to a local muffler shop. My buddy's 95 GT had a problem with his long tubes and the TKO he installed. The header was hitting the bellhousing. They charged him 35 bucks and clearanced the header for him. Took like 25 minutes and done. Might be worth the trouble if you can't get it.

BTW, here is a shot of whats going on. Its the "nose" of the solenoid that is hitting. It just enough contact that it won't let the starter seat flat on the bell housing. There is no other contact anywhere except in that one spot. You can see my crappy line I marked with a Sharpie. Thats the area I intend on dimpling.
