Will a triax shifter elimiate the..um i guess you would say binding or notchiness of the shifter. The stock shifter requires a good bit of force to jam it into gear IMHO.

Also will this void my transmission warranty from Ford...or will I have to swap in the stocker everytime I need warrantied transmission service.

This shifter blows the stock shifter out of the water 100% better, smooth, clean, crisp, shifts, if i were you i would put back the stock shifter if you have a problem w/ your transmission.. it only takes 30 min max to put it on/off. Buy it, great investment.

I think I would go with a pro 5.0 shifter from what I have reserched. Tri-ax can be noisy. Also if your transmission is notchy it will remain notchy, a new shifter will not fix it. But from what I hear the shifts are much better with either shifter. I think the pro 5.0 is made better too.

For me, the Tri-Ax fixed me missing 3rd, the "squishy" feeling shifting between gears, and the disgustingly long throws.

The Tri-Ax's all metal contruction does transfer the transmission noise, which you can help some w/ plastic washers between the handle and the shifter base. I also recommend blue loctite if you're using an aluminum shift knob. Overall, most of the "performance" shifters are very similar. I've never used the Pro 5.0, but it's supposed to be just as good as the Tri-Ax. Overall, eitehr one is an amazing improvement over stock. My dealer didn't say anything about the shifter, but I don't plan on bringing it to them often anyways. I do my own oil changes.

It was a toss for me regarding which shifter i bought... eenie, meenie, minnie, moe.. or something like that..i got the tri-ax..it is noisy though... a tip from one of the guys here recently suggested to use some bicycle rubber between where you connect the handle to the shifter..i tried it... works like a charm! cuts down on the noise and the heat :nice:

IMO any shifter mod will give you MORE notchiness. With the Tri Axe or Pro 5.0, you loose a LOT of rubber which equates to more noise and "notchiness,"
My Tri Ax is pretty loud IMO. I love it though, it greatly improved shift feel quality. When I say that I mean the slow, slushy feeling the stock shifte has. Plus I move my hand like 1/3 as much as I did with the stock shifter. I feel a lot more vibration/notchiness, and hear a lot more noise, but would I go back to stock... HELL NO!!!

I have the Pro 5.0 and in the past complained about the handle being to short. I bought the tri-ax handle for the pro 5.0 base and reaching 5th gear was effortless. The noise issue I was told about was from the tri-ax handle in being so light compared to the pro 5.0 handle and the stocker. What I did was wrap electrical tape around the handle where it meets the base and that eleminated pretty much all of the noise.

i'm not going to say it will get rif of the nothcyness but its so nice when you have one. And i have to be honest before i put it in all i heard about was how noisey it was. BUt i put both stock boots back on and i have to really be listening for it with the windows up and the radio off to hear it. And i'm extremely anal about my car. radio on or windows down i cant hear it. :flag:

My son has a Pro 5.0 on his '04 and I have a Pro 5.0 on my '00-both are great. Haven't used a Tri Ax but I can't imagine it being any better than the Pro 5.0. My son did get the Tri Ax handle on his and loves it. Neither car has any noise problem either.

Exactly what I did on my Tri-ax. A little electrical tape around the base between it and the shift handle is all that was needed to quell the small amount of noise coming through. Will never go back. The tri ax allows for two positions - mines in the upper. Not sure if the Pro 5.0 does as well. So yes to either the Pro 5.0 or the Steeda, then switch it back if you need to go to the dealer. If they notice even if you bring it for something else, they might mark it down for later use against you.

either shifter will do fine for you:

1) it'll prevent you from grinding gears and missing gears almost entirely.

- I still miss a gear on occasion but you can feel it better with the shifter and you wont grind it letting off the clutch when it snot in gear. Its usually either in or out of gear so missing a gear wont destroy your tranmission like it does with the stock shifter.

2) There are solid metal stop bolts on top and bottom of the shifter. The stock shifter supposedly has something to prevent over-extension of the shift fork but let me tell you it fails miserably...as my shift fork was cracked at 3000 miles. I think the first mod on a 5-spd mustang should be a shifter. Then you can work on exhaust and other things. Protect the investment your putting so much money into.

I just installed mine thursday, and love it! I notice slightly more noise, and that mainly comes when downshifting. I also noticed a little "whine" if you're sitting at the stoplight in neutral, but I can't hear it at all with the windows down, or the radio on. I might try the electrical tape if it starts to bother me, but I doubt it. Definitely get you a shifter, feels more solid, and a much shorter throw! :)

With either shifter, different handles and knobs produce different amounts of gear noise. I thought my the Pro-50 was supposed to be quieter than the Tri-Ax, but a couple weeks ago I put the Tri-Ax handle on my Pro-50 (with the same fatknob on top) and it's actually quieter than the Pro-50 handle. But the stock knob on the Pro-50 makes hardly any noise.
BTW, the Pro-50 handle is steel, the Tri-Ax is aluminum.

The Tri-Ax, supposedly, has a shorter throw than stock.
How much? (is that a smaller angle?)
20 percent, 15 percent, some, a whole bunch, lots,
just right, lots better, really good...
