So there I am with my friend filling up about to drop him off and then drive the 100 miles back to where Im staying for the summer. And the gas guy tells me that my tank is leaking. So I get out of the car expecting a droplet or two and theres a huge puddle and its just seaping out like crazy  . Has this ever happened to anyone else? Or am I the only lucky one? :bang: . Now Im at my friends house, which luckily is only a block away, and now I have to head back. Oh course the AAA lady told me theres a 2 hour window that the tow truck will get there.

Mine did the same thing when I bought her about 2 years ago. And I wondered why the guy left me with 1/4 tank of fuel :bang:.

The bad thing was, I had to drive it from wisconsin to michigan...and the first time I realized it was when I went to fill it up. I was just waiting...and waiting. A cop pulled up next to me at the adjacent pump....and then the smell came. I was like WTF!@#$%!!!

The next day a friend of mine was following behind me. I again stopped at a gas station, and when he got out...it looked like he was crying. He said he couldnt stand the fumes anymore...they were literally making him crazy! :rlaugh:

Anyways, I got the replacement at the ford dealer for around $7.00. It took about an hour to replace. I did not have to drop the fuel tank, but it took some manuvering of the filler neck and wiggleing of the rubber seal.

Yep, I just picked up a car in Kentucky, got about 20 minutes into my 8 hour drive and gas started pouring from the top side of the tank. I lost 3/4 of a tank in about 15 minutes. Long story short, ended up being the fuel return on top of the tank had come loose. I guess it was never installed correctly in the first place. My car still smells like gas!

my tank also leaks, but I found where it is coming from. I need to get a new tank which I found at a junkyard for $40. If you need a new one i recomend checking out the junkyards, its a lot cheaper. Anybody ever installed a gas tank before??? If so got any tips?

Same exact thing happened to me! I picked up the car about an hour and a half from my house, there was MAYBE an eighth in the tank when we got it. Filled her up, drove her home, noticed a trail of gas on the road leading from the road into my driveway. It proves that a woman owned it too, she obviously backed into something, the entire tank was cracked about 3/4 of the down. :nonono: When we dropped the tank you could clearly see it.

yeah if you do a fuel pump swap or drop your tank for anything the filler neck grommet usually rips, mine did. mine was 18 bucks tho from ford.

that happened to me also. I replaced the fuel pump, drove it down to the gas station, filled up the car, left the gas station, and before I got home (10 min. drive) I had 1/4 tank left. This all happened because I didn't replace the Filler neck grommet. :bang:

Well everyone's right it was the filler neck grommet. But man what an ordeal. Of course its pouring rain the entire time this is going on. After the AAA guy gets there I tell him the situation and he tells me he cant tow it until the fire department OKs it. So he says to call back when they do so. So I call the police and tell them the situation and they send 2 firetrucks and a police officer :rlaugh: . It was funny seeing everyone drive by the gas station and just look to see what was up. After about 90 minutes of waiting, the next tow truck driver comes and tows the car to my mechanic who sees what the problem is and calls a dealer the next town over who luckily had the part in stock. I wish I could have known this was going to happen so I could have had a new fuel pump to swap in. Oh well, it was pretty funny looking back on it now, especially having a huge ladder firetruck show up :rlaugh: .
