Drone?

When people say that thier mufflerz drone...what type of sound is it? I dont know what droning sounds like......

It happens with chambered mufflers usually at around 2000 rpms. Its kinda hard to describe its not really a popping noise but the term "drone" describes it perfectly.

I just looked at your sig and saw you have flowmasters. Just go out to your car and go a little above 2000 rpms then just take your foot off the gas and listen it should drone on the way down. I think you can also when you are driving just keep the rpms right around or a little above 2000 and you should hear the drone noise. Most people hate it but I love the sound I like to keep my car in that range just to hear it.

I have magnapaks on my GT and it drones. Maybe describe it as a gurgling sound?

I think the Flowmasters make more of a high pitched humming/gargling type of sound. With the off road pipe and 2 chamber Flows, my car sounds like a pissed off Wookie! (Think Chewbacca with his nuts in a vice.)

I've never heard the term "high-pitched" associated with flowmasters. I dont know what flowmastes and O/R pipe you are running but mine sounds like its about to rip somebody a new a$$hole. I posted a video of it if you wanna go watch it the thread is called "Video of my car".

I would consider an exhaust drone as a constant annoying hum that I could not live with .

Every set of Flowmasters I've had (at least on Mustangs) have droned in the same way...and it's always a Highish pitched hum. My O/R pipe and flows types are in my sig by the way, and I by no means was I alluding that my car doesn't sound filthy. I'm sure your car sounds very nice.....but my car sounds like Satan gargling Drano....and this is a good thing!

It's like being in the back seats in a DC-9 commercial jet. It's like you're in the middle of a ball of sound. Then as you go past 2500 RPM, the sound is behind you again.

Now does anyone think dumps make a difference in drone, esp on flowmasters?
