almost time for me to buy new tires for the 01 GT. It's all stock, for now. any recommendations? i've called for a quote on the stock goodyears (1154.00), dunlop (925), and am going to get a call back tomorrow for a quote on Toyo. i really don't have a budget, but 1154 is a little insane.

thanks in advance!

I just got new tires. I talked to the owner of the local tire shop about it, he reccommended toyos based on the fact that i was on a budget but i still wanted good all around performance for dry/wet conditions. I also mentioned Nittos, he told me that Toyo is the company that makes nitto tires and that nitto 555 are an "older" design, albeit cheaper in price. Basically i ended up with 4 Toyo T1A Proxes and paid $159 each. with balancing i paid a total of $697 or so for all four tires.
Let me tell you, WELL WORTH THE MONEY!!!! I am more than satisfied with the performance of these tires as well as the price.
These tires heat up quick and are pretty sticky when warm. I am also VERY impressed with their wet weather performance.
I HIGHLY RECCOMEND TOYO T1A PROXES

I have the Toyo Proxes 4. I've said a lot about them, and so have many others if you search on the net--nothing but good things. They stick, they don't have much road noise, and I simply love'em! Not too bad in the rain as well, although I still have stock gears (wife found out about my appointment tomorrow to get new gears and had to cancel...) <cry!>

If you are sticking with the stock size 245/45R17....I run BFG Traction T/A tires. They are great. Fantastic wet and dry performance and they have a 440 treadwear. They don't squeel and they ride nice. And they are only $116 ea. at Tire Rack. May be cheaper elsewhere. I bought mine locally for almost the same money.

Nitto's rule for price alone.

I have 4 on my 02 and love them.

Paid only $115 ea, no tax or shipping from tires.com (discount tire)

Toyo's are over priced big time, was quoted $170 ea for the Prox 4's

Quite sure its not better for the money.

That's what I got'em for, but hey, it's their upper-end tire (AFAIK). However, I'll make you a deal, if we ever hook-up I'll let you take my car for a spin and let you be the judge. ;) For me, I am VERY happy with $170 per tire and would / will do it again--no question. They are just an awesome ride.

170 a piece for proxes 4?????? someone was trying to stick it in and break it off. i seen them for 105 a piece online and nobody charges 60 bucks a piece for install, i been looking at the proxes 4s cuz the t1a toyos are a little pricey for me, and nobody around here sells nittos :notnice: , i am just not too fond of the traction t/a tread pattern. and if the proxes 4s are half as good as mega has said i should like them.

You are on Mega........

My point was the stock Goodyear's where toast at 18K miles.

Nobody had Toyo's on their car to try out.

One of our members had Nito's and loved them.

I mount and balance my own tires, so I save coin that way.

Les Schwab quoted my $170 for the Toyo's.

Mega I will be at the car show on sunday, stop by !!

Here's a site which has them for sale, but keep in mind, the $170.00 price I paid included the tires, balancing, and installation. You can also see people's feedback on the tire.

EDIT:
Take note, the Proxes 4 were Toyo's highest rated tire--by consumers. ;) 4.6 outta 5.0

EDIT #2:
I was told, with proper rotation, they could last 40,000 miles. (Taking into consideration how one drives, of course.)

I'll do my best to make the show on Sunday, Cavallo, but the wife has me going on redoing the downstairs bathroom... :( LOL

Good luck!
