Which would be better in the long run? Just buying a new C4 or having the old, original, leaky, clunky, sloppy shifting C4 rebuilt which has been rebuilt twice already in the last 10 years.
It's a '67 FB, 289 with a Compcam, Edelbrock Performer manifold, and Edelbrock 600 CFM.

If it's been rebuilt twice in the last two years then you need to find a new tranny shop. There's pros and cons to each. If you need any warranty work done it's a lot easier to take it to a local shop then ship it somewhere. But then if you get an aftermarket tranny it usually comes with good clutches, shift, etc. But if you think about it, these are rebuilt as well. Are you looking for a stock or preformance rebuild?

Twice in TEN years is excessive. Maybe the workmanship, or the lack of fluid changing led to it. I'd still rebuild the old one. Just get a good shop.

Yeah, I say get a good shop to rebuild your old tranny. That should be about half the cost of a new one and most likely any new C4 you might purchase would be a remanufatured unit anyway. Or you could go nutso crazy like I did and swap in a 5 speed.
