Roush 1989 Saleen Question

  • Sponsors (?)

Unfortunately, there is a better chance Slappy that your car is a clone than Saleen back in 89 not installing a strut tower brace. Saleen was at their peak production in 1989 and not skimping on parts. 1989 is most knocked off year for foxes simply because of the number of engine bay plaques and console shifter plaques. I have seen a few 90 and up fox body cars without a strut tower brace because of the factory blower.
Slappy, you just purchased your car correct? Can you trace all of the owners before you and the dealership that it was originally purchased at? Also, has your car been out of state? You are in Washington state, correct? Are the factory rivets on your vin tag on your dash silver or grey? Take as many pictures as you can of your engine bay (placement of your engine bay plaque so I can measure) take pics of your driver side door jamb where it latches and the door. If you don't want to post the pic's pm me.
I have seen a few really good clones. Also Slappy your car is 89-0175 correct? If you would like I can ask someone internally at Saleen where your car was stamped.

Interesting. My 89 doesn't have one, nor does it have anything indicating it ever had one. And yes, mine's a legit Saleen. Hmmmm.....

I know your car very well Slappy. It is a real Saleen, and yes, it did have the strut tower brace. Lots of history on your car...shoot me a PM if your ever intrested.

Nice.
That is the great thing about numbered cars. There are so few Saleens around that if a car is authentic it someone always knows some history about it.
Come to think of it I don't think I have ever seen an 87-89 without a strut tower brace.
Enjoy your car Slappy. Sounds like you have your hands full.

Anybody know any about Saleen 89-243... I have owned the car for 4 years. White convertible... Excellent car but no history. Liz told me it was a one of a kind special order car. Just wondering if anybody ever heard about the car before my purchase. I bought the car vey cheap being sold as a special mustang so they did not even realize what it was.... My wife actually found the car after I took her to a Saleen show... She recognized the marking etc. Boy this was a stressful transaction. I paid cash to someone who spoke no english and all he could tell my wife was that is is a special mustang... the car was completely stock and everything was there, even the radio and eq..

89-0243

Last 3 of the VIN: 263

Body Style: VERT w/ WHITE top

Ship Date: 11/23/88

Owned by 3 or more people

Has 3.27 gears

Has the Saleen Badge on the interior passenger side of the dash.

That about does it for what the Saleen Book says about the car.

The Saleen Book is awesome! My girlfriend just got me the signed hardback version (#223) for my 21st birthday and I can't wait to read through all of it. I think the best part was seeing 99-0278 in the registry! I highly recommend this book to all Saleen enthusiasts.
