Stopped by Woodfield Ford in Schaumburg Illinois which they had one White GT with MSRP of 26K and change. He told me unless I am approved no test drives and they are not going to deliver until the 20th. He said he just sold one similar Saturday for 35k.

8k or so over MSRP? Not for any car!

Is the norm for most dealers?

Was thinking about buying one but I may just stick with my 2k WS6 until dealers come back to reality!

Approved for what? It is not the norm for a dealer to turn away a test drive. The only car Ford is "iffy" about letting go out on test drives are the Cobra....unless they have a demo model.
They are also "iffy" on the S/C Roush/Saleen models and I imagine they will not let you drive the Ford GT(if they even have one). As far as paying 35K for an 05, you can tell that dealer to **** off because that is ridiculous. But, if you have the $$$$ and like getting raped pay the 35K, but I am sure they will be more readily available soon and the prices will be MUCH more reasonable. I am sure most people on this forum would advise this. Just trying to look out for you.

It's not the norm where I live. The first dealer I talked to said $3K over MSRP but they soon dropped that once they realized there wouldn't be that many takes at that price. The rest of dealers I've talked to said MSRP firm. I haven't found one here that is willing take X-Plan however.

First 05 I test drove at one dealership had a sticker with "market value" of $2,600. added. One salesmen had told me I would be able to order my 05 on xplan , then when I got to test drive it they told me no.They said the damand was high, 5 out of their remain 10 cars for the year were already spoken for, come back at the end of the when they would have more cars on the lot. So anyone that bought that car would had to pay $2,600. 0ver MSRP!!

Found a good dealer ship that let me order mine on Xplan no hassles. I told my salesman I want to oeder on xplan , it will take like 6weeks to get here, that will be mid to late december, when most dealers will have cars on their lots anyhow, and will probably be selling at reasonable prices below MSRP!!And if the dealership wont let you test drive one ( all they need to see is your drivers liscene) Tell them youll find another dealership that wants to sell cars, not just display them!!!!

I walked on to a Ford lot and got a test drive without any problem. Right now in California, (S.F. bay area) dealers are only getting 1 or 2 at a time so they are getting MSRP. Until the 05' stangs are coming on to the lots in numbers they'll probably be able to get that MSRP. I don't understand why a dealer would'nt give you a test drive, it's not like your testing out a Ferrari or some $100k plus vehicle that not everyone can afford?

The Ford dealer near my house said "no test drives w/out a commitment to buy." The reason for this was that if they let anyone test drive, they'd be "spending all day giving test drives." There were about 15 people around the car when I saw it (about 2-3 weeks ago). While this may have been true the first day that the car arrived, I don't think it's the case anymore.
