EPOXIED HEADS, NOW HAVE PROBLEMS

My buddy has a 347 with TFS Twisted Wedge heads that a friend of ours raised the intake ports 1/2" and epoxied the bottomof the port. Unfortunately, all of the epoxy came loose. The car does not run the way it should.

Mods: '87 hatch
forged 347 8.5:1 (blower combination)
cobra intake w/ported lower
65mm TB
77mm Pro M mass air
24lb. injectors
cam: Lunati 535 intake/565 exhaust (I'm unsure of the duration and
overlap)
1.7 intake rockers
1.73 exhaust rockers
T-5
long tube headers w/2.5 exhaust
4.10 gear
drag suspension
7.7@87 in 1/8 mile

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

Not to sure what you are looking for or why you would epoxy a head. Why did he do this and why did he want to raise the intake ports a 1/2"?

Anyway I think you answered your own question when you said the epoxy came loose.

What do you mean by "doesn't run the way it should"? You might start by getting ALL of the epoxy off the heads and/or out of the engine/exhaust... I've never heard of epoxying a head and I'm not really sure why you would? Maybe someone who's heard of this will chime in...

I see 3 problems...

The first being it broke off in a large peice and is now blocking part of the valve.

The second would be the epoxy flaking off in small peices and actually entering the cylinder. I'm no chemist but i'd imagine the heat of the engine would possibly melt the epoxy and get over your pistons/cylinder walls. I dont know of epoxy burning very well.

And finally with the intake port raise 1/2 inch and the epoxy gone, you're lookin at a pretty big port. You lost alot of intake velocity and now you have a high RPM head.

I agree with jb89coupe, just tear the motor apart and clean it up.

i have heard of epoxying a head but i forgot what magazine it was what if it got lodged between the valve and bent it, cracked the head and guides, bent pushrods, screwed rings and cylinder. it is best that you leave all head mods to a pro
