Tach is wrong

When my car is off, the tach reads 600. It shows to idle around 1500. Has anyone ever heard of this. I also have white face gauges, but I compared them to my friends 96 and the gauges look the same.

Did you do the installation yourself ? When you say the tach reads 600, is it resting on the peg or is it off on its own ?

Off on it's own. They were on the car when I bought it, but one time I did have my gauge pod out and looked at it and everything matched up correctly.

your needle is on the wrong tooth, take it out and match it up.

Turn the key on, but don't start the motor. The needles should all zero out. With it like that take the tach needle off and put it back on the correct way.

With a '96 you will have to take the clear face off your pod, pull the tach needle off, hook up a hand held tach. Set a specific RPM, say 2500 or 3000-hold it and set the tach needle to agree. You CAN'T set it with the engine off.
