Just got a brand new 04 GT. I have about 1K bucks, left over for mods. How about some ideas on the best way to invest it for the most HP return. I really want to get to the 300 HP mark, but I realize this may not be possible given my current budget.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

alot of people might not agree with me..but i want to say that you can get a nx 100 shot kit(nitrous)..and make sure you get the bottle warmer, rpm safety switch, and purge valve..i believe you can get this all for like $800...and you should definitely have 300+hp...but, lets see what others say

nitrous, just like any power adder is safe as long as it is tuned correctly

alot of people prob. won't agree with this one either, but i'd say get some gears. may not give u any more hp; but it sure makes it feel alot faster.

plus u still got plenty of $ left over for another mod like mid-pipe, which is a pretty good bump, hp-wise for the money.

I agree with dsg_gt2004 but also with daver01 but also with Black2001GT, which made sence you car is not even broken into YET, save your money after half a year you could prbly save enough money for a good used S/C kit.
my 2 cents well actually 8 cents :D

If you want 300 right now then go for the nitrous, I'm personally not a fan of nitrous just because its all always there but with the nitrous you will be at 300 and you should be able to get it for right around $1,000. Like BlackGT said just save up for a S/C. If you want like a little boost of speed for now like dave said go for the gears *Make sure you get 4.10's*

Um not true, a S/C or nitrous will seriously limit the life of your engine, even if properly tuned.Anyone ever seen a supercharged 4.6 with stock lowend and over 200K miles of supercharged action. No way, I doubt you could pull 100K out of a S/C or nitrous equiped engine, UNLESS you never really used the power adder.(Ie. sprayed occasionally, rarely got into boost) However it is the best way to go (supercharging particularly due to the power always being there) but be putting back a fund for a forged lowend. Now if your just wanting to get a good time through the 1/4 or only want the power if you need to hand someone his butt while on the street, and dont really car about having a fast car everytime you nail it, then get nitrous because you wouldnt be using it often and SHOULD yield more life out of your engine.

For an 04:
Short throw shifter (if manual) 20 minute job and totally changes the way the car feels in my opinion. Nothing like precise, tight shifts. Pro 5.0 = MGW = Steeda Tri-Ax so take your pic - average $169.

Pro-Chamber. Great sounding and excellent upper RPM torque for the money. - $239

Exhaust. Take your pic. Personally I think the MAC flowpaths are a work of art when coupled with the Pro-Chamber - average $300

Gears. One of the cheapest but most impacting mods you can do to a car. Changes the way it feels completely. It's just something you have to experience; especially after driving it with the stock gears. It honestly feels like your car gains 100+ horsepower when you drive it for the first time after going to 3.73s or 4.10s - $200

$908.00 and money left over to do something like put in white faced guages. It's not a lot of extra gain in horse power / tq; probably put you in the mid 250s in terms of hp but the car will feel totally different in a postive way. You will have a mean car and a nice basis for more hard core mods like nitrous or a blower.

If you have the big cash now, Get the big money things out of the way.

Gears and Tune Now.......Here Is my power list of what I would do.

Gears.....4.10s
Tune.....SCT XCalibrator
X-PIPE........ DR Gas
under drive pullies......steeda or ASP....Noted I like ASP
accufab 70mm throttle body and plenum
Cat back or welded in mufflers...... Noted mainly A Sound mod, choice of sound is yourse
filter.... K&N or something like it....Noted CAI is a looks only mod. Go to junk yard and get another stock airbox. Cut around nere the clamp keep lower part that connects to frame and upper bolt.....This is my CAI setup.
Shorty Headers....Unless you are into Drag racing and want a few more hp get long tubes.

Thats the bolt ons that make power and my choices of parts.

Best bang for the buck HP wise is hands down a bottle. Like others said fro $800 you can have roughly an extra 100whp and gobs of torque. You gotta fill it up but anway.

If you dont want your baby on the bottle, I would suggest gears, LTs, mid-pipe, and cat-back. Might be more than a grand but anyway.

If I had 1000 just sitting around, I would probably start with cams, and a tune.

If I was not ready for that I would probably get gears and exhaust. Bottom Line do what you want, It is your project, 99.9% of the pleasure comes from making your own decisions and seeing your horse become a stallion.:nice:

Gears are a good idea but its not only 200 bucks like u guys claim... thats just the price of the gears... you are forgetting the installatin prices and oil... bumps it up to around $450... then id say K&N($50), an X-PIPE(avg $300), mufflers($100), and short shifter($150) .... thats a good $1050 spent and you should have about 285 crank horsepower plus better gearing and easier shifts into that crucial 3rd gear... which should net you comfortable high 13's
