You can cut the stock pipes with a hacksaw, yes. But it will make your life much easier if you go to the hardware store and rent a Sawz-all or something equivalent. SLP fits really well, I had no leaks and no clearance issues. Good luck

Took me and a buddy 1 hr 55 mins start to finish and i put on a mac or h at the same time. We only had jack stands ramps and a sawzall. One thing i did do was get the 3/8 extension and jointed socket.
