I ran a search before starting a new thread and found no information on past discussions. I'd like to know how many of you removed the vapor trap and kept the stock filter or K&N?

I have a K&N air filter, and recently installed an SLP axleback. I'm leaning towards removing the vapor trap, but I heard horror stories in other forums about the engine light coming on, loss of power, etc.

Could anyone please share their experience with us??? I'm planning on doing my first oil change this weekend at 3000 miles within the past 6months I've had her, and like to remove that big "hunk of junk" while am it too!!!

Here is a Dyno of the H/C Trap On and Removed

Green is stock
Red is H/C Trap Removed
Purp is a CAI w/out Tune

And in case you cant read it here is the results

Green - 263.1 HP / 276.8 Torque
Red - 270.3 HP / 287.6 Torque

With the H/C Trap removed, it gave 7 HP and 10 Torque.

Did you have to retune after the mods?

Picked our car up went right home to take the H/C Trap out. Opened it all up to find that it didn't have one in it. Talked with service department to make sure some where down the line they might say I should have one. They said no problem. Now has Steeda CAI.

Hurdlinmasta, thanks :nice: I'm looking for factual information, and based on your results I'm convinced. I plan on removing the hydro carbon trap first thing tomorrow morning, and take it for a drive

I'd want to see the A/F for the no-HC filter run before I'd run out to the garage and remove it. That power's bound to come from leaning out the mix, maybe dangerously. I've seen elsewhere that you really should retune after removing it.

I did the same, removed the HCT and replace the filter with a K&N. No problems, a little hesitation in throttle response due to the computer trying to compensate and a little meaner sound on the down rev. I'll eventually reflash to run a cleaner setup, but it's definitely a no brainer mod.

I'm in california and mine didn't come with an H/C trap. I looked for it but it's not there. I was at the dealership when the car arrived so I know they didn't pull it out. Maybe Ford stopped putting them in at some point... my build date was 04/05/05.
