I'm finally getting my GT May 24 after changing my mind with my order - I'm taking a GT from the lot (did not like my color choice...)

My original choice was for a Mineral Grey + IUP + red leather + side airbags + active alarm. Now I'm getting Silver +IUP+red leather+active alarm+shaker 1000.

Not very happy about trading the side airbags for a Shaker 1000 because my ears are too old to take a beating and because I consider it takes too much trunk space. The only good thing is that I'm basically getting the Shaker for free, as this option cost a lot more than the airbags.

My technical question is the following: when needing extra space, is it possible to remove the subwoofer without causing any damage to the amp (I'm no electrical engineer, but I was always told that damage could be caused when unbalancing the total impedance or load on the system).

Any input would be appreciated!

No expert here, but the Shaker 1000 looks only to ADD 2 subs and amp. Meaning your original wiring MAY still be there to function as a 500w system.

I can safely predict Ford will start Selling the 1000 Upgrade as an add-on to pre-existing 500 systems. Given that it's an add on, I'm almost sure you can take it out just as simply. But I'd read into it much further before attempting anything...

BTW, nice combination you picked up there.

Thanks for the reply, Boost Addict!

I'll read into it and ask the service manager when I pick up the car. Now I have to get my Acura TL-S cleaned up before returning it (it's a lease)...

There's no need to remove them unless you just have to have the space. Hit the menu button on the head unit and the first thing that comes up is an option to turn off the subs. I would think that leaving them off would also cure any problems if they are removed.

That's exactly why I asked the question. This car will be a daily driver. With the sub in, you can't put golf bags in... Same goes if you want to use the car to go on vacation (I plan to do that, as my 10 yr old daughter still can fit confortably in the back seat, and I want to save some mileage on my wife V70 XC). Of course, this will be done only when the spae will be needed any extended period.

Then I would simply turn off the shaker and remove the sub box. When I installed my sequential tail lights I had to remove the shaker to get to the lights. It was not hard to do; took about 20min. The shaker is held in with 5 bolts at three mounting points and although I did not unplug the box I seem to remember a plug back there. The only problem I think you may have will be that removing the sub box will leave the amp and some wiring exposed. The amp is fixed to the inside of the rear fender just behind the box. You could probably just cover that with something like a piece of cardboard and be just fine. Good luck. I might add that I too did not really want the shaker 1000 but got stuck with it when I bought off the lot. If you like music you may find that the shaker grows on you. The bass is not out of hand and it adds a dimension to the music that you don't notice untill you get use to it and then one day it's gone. :flag:
