Edelbrock subframes, strut tower brace, battle boxes and upper and lower control arms and my 99 GT was as stiff as a board.
Neither one of my cars creaked or rattled either. I think that is the end result of beating the snot out of the car on a regular basis.
300bhp/ton said:The new s197 platform os totally different (world class standards good). I don't know the specs on it but I would guess Ford are claiming somthing like 80%+ increase in structutal rigidity, this is a mssive leap. Imagine if they developed the new power plant to the same extent, every new GT would have 460+bhp on tap.

ga01blkgt said:Agree with you on the new Mustang hype. I went to see the new Mustang at a dealership and the salesman starts ranting about how fast the new Mustang is. Nice car; good interior; a FEW more ponies under the hood; new suspension with a Panhard rod. (always wanted one on my car) Even would not let me test drive it because they only had one and they were charging 30K for that one! My response to him (I have a modded 01 GT) was "Why should I buy this car when it can't beat the one that I have?" He gets this look on his face and says smuggly, "What do you drive?" at which time I took him to my car and started it up, told him of some of my mods, plus the car looks sinister as hell since it is straight black (black saleen wheels with fat tires and very low and black car) I also said, "And you guys are charging too much for this damn thing!" He then walked away and tried to give me his card when I was leaving. Now I love Mustangs and have had three at some point or another but I just am not impressed with the power. No sense to me getting one and having to start the mod process all over again, (have you seen the prices on some of the stuff now?) and still not be able to beat an Z28/SS/WS6/C5 Vette. Point being, and this is just my humble opinion becase I know that some guys will flame this thread, the new GT is a nice car with FINALLY an updated chasis and technology, but when a new stock Mustang will not beat my 01 GT and definitely will get walked by the GM models that I listed above, as well as an 05 GTO (even though everyone does not like the look and even though so many people give the argument on the o-60 times but around 100 mph, the Goat walks) why not just wait for a Mustang model, ala the next Bullitt, Mach, Boss with more than 300 HP and not much more money than the standard GT now?
P.S. and to qualify my statement on a stock 05 GT not beating my car, one pulled up next to me on I20 here in Georgia about one month ago at about 50 MPH and let's just say that he was pissed afterwards.....
Some of it might be due to the fact that the F-Bodies don't have true dual exhausts while the Stang does. Just my opinion...
Um, if you purse your lips and play it like a bugle, maybe?
The firebird on the otherhand you almost got right, it looks like a fat stoner bitch is driving it over so she can kick your azz with some blue oyster cult playing in the backround. That would be why they are gone.
If they looked good, people would have bought them. Just like the new GTO.
05Stangster said:and I suppose that was 115,000 miles ago? These threads crack me up. My GT is fast enough for me. This or that is faster than the new Mustang. Why is the Mustang so slow? How come the Mustang can't keep up with the old LS1-fbods? How come the New Mustang can't keep up with the BMW's? Why, why, why? Who the he!! cares. I got a 300hp Mustang GT for under 30K out the door with tax, title etc.
I guarantee you one thing - it is your friend in his 99 SS, the TransAm's, Camaros, BMW's etc. that are revving and wanting to race my Mustang - not the other way around. This is because the Mustang looks fantastic and doesn't rattle more than rattle snake being stepped on by an elephant.
I'll take my (cough, cough) slow Mustang GT any day over the LS1-fbods. If for no other reasons - mine looks one heck of a lot better, sounds better, I have a lot less miles, better mileage - and if I choose to do a sub 12 quarter mile, I can make her do it with "the mods"
Orr89rocz said:i guess thats your opinion but looks do sell abit, but GM kinda priced it out of the market, and insurance on the LS1 cars aint cheap... i think it might be more expensive than the mustang. but looks were not really a reason, as many people love the cars looks.... i just dont understand why they didnt sell all that well and had to kill of the F body. The GTO is a car fit to a different consumer and the guys that would buy the Fbody wont buy the GTO. GM needed to bring a fbody with the right looks/power/build quality and price to make it big... and they didnt quite have it. majority of the public i guess arent really racers at heart, and i guess they chose mustang. i'll never understand why......
DoubleONegative said:But correct me it i am wrong but the mustang has been getting it ass kicked at the track since 93 when the LT1 came out, then the LS1.
Too right, I think the figure for at least the first 2 months (probably even now too) of production for the average time a new Ford GT Mustang was on a dealers lot before its sold is 15mins. - WOW!sawman70 said:Not in sales my freind and that is how you gauge success.
It's the package not one element that sells.
My God, there are no Mustangs even on the lot by me. The only ones are left over 04 V6's. Even the used ones are selling well.
I sure bet Ford wishes they had gone to 350hp to help out the sluggish 05 sales.
