New '06 Chevy SS line up vs. new mustangs...??

The accel won't be nearly as good as the stang.

The Impala SS engine is .7 liters larger, puts out 303 HP and 323 Torque. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2006 Impala SS gives the GT a good run for its money (in accleration, not in sales or anything else). It's bland, bland, bland.

Doesn't look nearly as nice, and it's FWD, but with that much power and a bigger engine than the Stang, it may catch a few Mustang GT owners at the stoplight by surprise.

Umm yeah, my buddies Chevy Dumptruck puts out 375 horse and 450 ft/lbs of torque...better watch out gt owners you might get beat by a truck full of dirt....for real you cant just say that the impalla or monte carlo is just as fast because it has .7 more liters and a few extra ponies. :nonono:

And how much does that dumptruck weigh?

The Impala SS is going have a bigger engine than the GT and more power than the GT and weigh in about the same. You do the math. Granted it's FWD, but it's got more power as well. Could get interesting :)

I'd still take the GT over the Impala in a heartbeat, but it might be a reasonable foe to the GT performance wise.

You need to pass whatever you're smoking. :nice:

For one, the 2005 Mustang GT is underrated from the factory at... gasp... peak flywheel 300 HP and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. More power? 3 peak HP? 3 peak lb.-ft. of torque? You're kidding, right? Granted, I haven't seen an 06 Impala SS dyno graph, but it'd be tough to beat the flat-as-Kansas torque and HP curves of the 05 Mustang GT.

For another, the 06 Impala SS will come with FWD and a 4-speed automatic (NO manual, NO performance auto or manumatic). You'll have to pardon the GT owners that aren't quivering in their shoes.

Third, the base price before ANY options for an 05 Impala SS or Monte Carlo SS is $30K. For a $32-35K as-tested price, any idiot with a brain might as well get a 2005 GTO if they're lusting after a GM car.

Fourth, the 2005 Impala SS has a curb weight of 3606 lbs. with a V6 engine. The 05 Mustang GT with a 5-speed has a curb weight of 3487 lbs. And don't tell me swapping a V8 for the V6 is going to make the Impala SS any lighter.

And finally, bigger engines does not necessarily mean better. The pushrod engine by design packs more displacement into a given engine weight and size, the tradeoff being it takes more displacement to make an equal amount of power as a high-flowing OHC engine. That 0.7L of extra displacement? Meaningless.

Did you read his numbers? You did pretty good.. LOL!! WOW!!!

I just want to see the 2007 Camero.. Everything else is worthless too me.. I even hate Vettes.. I've never liked vettes..

But give me a 69 camero anytime.. Or a 2007 Camero that resembles a 69!! I'll even let them put SS on it.. LOL!!

I'm talking about your track times.. Looks like the 2005 V6 has got the 87-93 Mustangs licked, until you get to the GT40 Cobra.. Other than that, I guess the V6 can beat several versions of the GT previous to those years..

No it will not be a reasonable foe to a mustang gt. It does have comparable power but is heavier. The 0-60 will be in the low 6 second range. The fact that this car is FWD automatic only is not a trivial difference. for optimal acceleration the rear wheels need to be driving due to weight transfer to the rear axle under accel. I have driven the 2006 Impala SS and it has serious torque steer under hard acceleration. This vehicle is quick but anyone interested in a mustang is not going to like the impala/monte carlo. Not to mention that the montecarlo in particular is really ugly.

I agree, I don't think it's all that attractive either. I never said the SS was going to beat the GT, only that it could give the GT a good run for its money. It'll be interesting to see how they perform when they hit the streets.
