I was watching the news this morning and they were talking about how the gas pedal on the 2002 Explorer sticks and they may have to recall it. Then I was thinking how I never see any recalls on the news about Mustangs then all the sudden they start showing one and talking about a similar problem. I guess on either the 02-03 or 03-04, I dont quite remember but they said the gas pedal can get stuck in the carpet.

Anyone have this happen to you? I havent and dont see how it could.

I've heard of it happening to a few 03 cobra owners. Your immediate reaction....clutch, then you have the gas all the way down to the floor.... then say goodbye to your car :notnice: . I know that would be my first reaction. The other thing would be to turn your car off. The problem with that is if you're going at a considerably high speed, you turn the car off and have NO brakes and NO steering...youre ****ed. Ever since I heard abotu that, i cut my carpet near the gas pedal so there's no chance that it would happen

youre f#@$ed if you cant drive without power steering/brakes you mean
its not hard, ive had my car cut off on me on the interstate before and it takes more effort to restart an auto w/ a ratchet shifter hehe. you cant even feel the loss of power steering and the braking shouldnt be an issue unless your in high-speed stop and go traffic.

my buddy had a doughnut blow out on the front of his 98 (he's a dumb#ss and was going 90 with 2 spares on the front to look cool), it blew out the fender well and snagged the cruise control cable to WOT. if his dumb#ss was smart enough to respond by clutching and killing the engine, anyone can.

anyway, im sure its a problem for the average driver but the pedal spacer mod and a thick bolt for a dead-stop should be a welcomed improvement.

I read the article on CNN this morning.. I think there is a link in Talk. The article said 2003 and possible 2004, the estimated that it may affect 20,000 Mustangs.. Based on theproduction numbers that doesn't seem to be too many. It must only be a problem on certain models if it wouldn't affect all Mustangs.

I have the spacer on my pedal as well. I don't see my carpet being an issue.
