Well I got a check engine light and it said that the EGR valve reported insufficient flow. Autozone said I needed a new EGR valve. I said okay and ordered it. I had a friend help me install it. We turned the battery off for about 5min and everything was fine. The check engine light went away. After driving for about 30min, it came back on. The code is the same thing. I'm confident it's installed correctly.

What else could be the problem?

Thanks for the help.

I had the same **** happend to me. The light came on when i was going to the shore. I though there was a problem with the Valve. Autozone told me the same ****. they had a EGR valve for like 54.99 but i didnt buy it. and they tried to sell me fuel injector cleaner. i tried the injector but it didnt work. i was gonna replace the EGR but there was that little voice in me saying check it out before replacing the thing. i got it serviced at a ford dealership. they charged 80 an hour to check the engine. I told them where tthe problem was, it took like 20min to get them to find whatever that was causing the problem. it was the the sensor that was bad. it took 150 total. Parts, labor and checking. i think i made out alright.

no offense but you could've done it your self for a helluva lot cheaper.

the sensor is under $20 after tax and stuff. I think (don't remember it's been a few months)

disconnect battery.
unplug sensor.
use a pair if pliers (if needed) to CAREFULLY work the hoses lose.
disconnect hoses (don't get them mixed up) (mark them if needed)
attach hoses to new sensor
plug in
reattach battery

done. :D

Maybe Autozone should go out of business. :rlaugh:

The only thing that saved me money was my friend takin' my car to the Morris County Vo-Tech garage (he was in the auto class) to have the code read (FREE). then talk to my uncle (owns garage) (FREE)then to one of the techs at the Ford dealer on Route 23.(FREE)

wow, i feel like an @$$ now. :( i'm leaving. :(

Can I return the EGR valve to autozone for a refund since they told me to get the wrong part? They scanned the code free and the parts manager seemed fairly confident when he told me I needed to replace the EGR valve - so I took his word and bought the $50 part.

Also, is driving with the SES light because of this sensor malfunction effecting anything like my gas mileage or idle? Is this something I need to get fixed asap?

Thanks

I don't think so. Mine was on for a few weeks. it's more of an annoyance than anything else.
