K & N CAI

Just curious as to the noise increase I will experience with an '03 stock exhaust Cobra. Will it be a high pitch noise ala blower type whine or more a air gulping sound like the 4 barrels of old? With hood vents practically over the filter I am concerned about how it will sound. Also, is the K & N sufficently protected from sucking in hot air or is it a non-issue?

(P.S. I had by accident dropped this thread in the Shine forum and asked that it be moved but since it wasn't, I am reposting here where I wanted it in the first place. Sorry).

You will hear the whine of the blower a little more, not anything like the ol 4 barrel carbs. Some run with just the filter but I added the black plastic heat guard to my setup, don't really know if it helps keep the hot engine air from being sucked in or not but it was cheap and probably helps some. The most comments and for me some of the best are on the whine of the blower as I'm playing with someone on the street. The whine isn't all bad :nice: You really need to change out the restrictive stock exhaust, let it breath. You'll be surprised just how much better it'll run with just CAI and exhaust. Good luck.

Yes you'll hear more supercharger whine. Even more so if you've already performed the "Postban Hood Mod". Use the heatshield that comes with the unit even though all the talk about sucking hot air from the engine compartment loses most all its merit once the car is moving...so yes, it's really a non-issue unless you like to let your car sit and idle for long periods of time.

Your next mod needs to be a cat-back! That K&N FIPK coupled with a quality cat-back will really wake your car up!

Yep UM is right. I just put mine on this week. Freaking awesome! Sounds killer...throtle response is nice...I love it. Hard to tell if there is much HP or TQ increase based on the seat of the pants-o meter. I can say however...that the cars are fading faster....but then again that could be an episode of fear factor...."oohhhh it's so loud honey slow down.."

I have the hood mod as well...well..no mod that heat/RF shield is completely gone. Sounds really good now...love seeing the heat roll out from under the hood...

So, OK where do I learn about the "Postban Hood Mod"?
Because of the car being a "10 Anniversary" with very low miles (1800) I want to use caution when modding so it can be easily undone and returned to stock to maintain some of its collectibility. Are the "catback systems" all bolt on without cutting or welding? Any recommedation for a deep sounding rumble in a non-offensive system is appreciated. Some of these sound very loud on the soundtracks. I must admit this car is much quieter than I would have thought. I think a stock GT is louder.

Well the hood mod can be done in a couple ways. One way removes the rain flaps completely from the bottom of the heat extractors and also requires cutting the hood blanket. Almost everyone does this mod because it allows more engine heat to escape. The other way folds the rain flaps up under your hood blanket. You can read about and see pictures of the hood mod here: http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4291686253

The cat-back install is a bolt-on and no welding is required. As for what kind of cat-back to get.... I won't even go into that because sound is such a subjective topic. Ask 10 people, you'll get 10 different answers.
