I understand that some CAI require a computer reflash, so the computer can run safely with the excess air... in my experience excess air means the engine will be running a lean mxture (from my experience from the Radio Controlled hobby, im no engine specialist)... so what if instead of a reflash, i upgraded the fuel pressure regulator to a higher grade, ie. the stock regulator is a 3 bar reg swap it for a 4 bar regulator (dont know stock fuel regulator, this is merely an example)... this should compensate for the excess of air entering the CAI.... what do u guys and gals think... just had a brain fart!LOL

Just go with a X-Calibrator II. You may be able to do what you want to try, but for the cost and what else you can gain with a tuner its better choice. Buy more bolt ons before you put a tune in the car so you dont have to keep retuning the car.

Why does everybody try and dodge the tuner? It does alot more than just make your CAI work,I don't even have a CAI. Tuner is the starting point on modding these cars period. Moderators should make it a sticky at the top"YOU NEED A TUNER"

not trying to dodge the tuner, just was a comment, besides i rather do all mods, THEN tune the ecu
Why,the tuner will give you more than a CAI,and its not like you can't retune, when you get parts. I think its fun messing with the program. You don't really have the abillity to mess up too bad with the program you get,you would have to get the full on dealer tuner software to really mess up.

The tuner bothers me because of warranty issues.

You can flash it back to stock. I just installed my Steeda High-Velocity CAI, and I drove it around the block without a tune, then with my SCT Xcal2 custom tune. Huge difference. Get the tuner. It's worth it. Even if you weren't changing the intake, besides gears, this is the best performance mod you can do to these '05's for about $300.
