Springs

Personal opinion here.... Does the Cobra/Mustang look like a 4X4 when riding on the stock wheels & tires...yep! Do Cobra's & Mustangs look better when lowered? Yup! Will I ever put springs on my Cobra? Nope! I want to be able to go in and out of driveways and over speed bumps at something more than a snails pace without having to worry about scraping. I think once you add lowering springs you start losing some drivability. Add a set of LT's to those lowering springs and now you have to either swerve or cringe at every pothole in the road.

For me drivability is worth more than looks or handling.

Somehow BMW's and other sports cars with tight clearances aren't having any problem.

for an 01 cobra with IRS i would go with the Kenny Brown sport springs. 1.5 in the rear and 1.75 in the front is pretty much what you get after the settle. you shouldn't have a clearence problem if you keep the drop under 2". anything under 2" changes the cars front roll center and causes an understeer and bumpsteer problems anyway.

My .02. I have a '96 GT and an '01 Cobra. I put Eibach Pro Series springs on both. Both lowered about 1 1/2". From my perspective the look is right, no 4X4's here.

U M is right, you'll scrape on stuff. Speed bumps are treacherous.

I say personal preference.

Please explain. I want to understand why Mustangs have to have a 4 inch clearance while BMWs can handle 1 inch. Are you saying it's a matter of cost?
What clearance are you speaking of? I'm talking about the clearance between a Mustangs mid-pipe and the ground, not the tire clearance in the wheel well. If guys want to put 18's or even 20's (like on the new 05's) to fill up the wheel wells that's cool because it doesn't affect ground clearance. I'm specifically referring to lowering springs. Ask anyone who has lowering springs + mid-pipe and/or long tube headers + stock rims/rubber if they scrape on stuff. If they say never they are a liar.

When you go to a larger diameter wheel, shouldn't you stay relatively close to the original tire diameter? If this is true, then you're not filling up any of the space in the wheel well. Also, if you can go with a larger diameter tire, this does affect ground clearance, it actually will increase it.

Yes.

Right again.

You are correct again sir!

What I was trying to get at is when putting a larger diameter wheel/tire package on a car it appears or gives the illusion as if the gap is closed up between the tire and fenderlip.

If I were to get lowering springs I would chose the Kenny Brown springs. From what I've read they produce the best looking rake and provide a ride closest to the stock springs.

Hey uncle can you tell me how stiff the kenny brown springs are b/c i have 10.5 inch rims im gonna put on the car the didnt touch on my gt but I want to put a wider tire on them like a 295 or bigger
