When I was doing a lot of sand blasting a couple of years ago, I found it helpful for clean up when I bought a cheap small pop up tent and did all of the blasting in that. Then just used a cheap shop vac to vacuum up the used slag.

I was using a respirator and black beauty slag as a media. Which is refined coal, does anyone know if that produces the same gas reaction that you spoke of with the silica sand?
