ok i got bored today so i spent a couple of hours cleaning some engine parts. I managed to get the timing chain and sprockets along with the pushrods looking almost new.

I took some degreaser from work, this stuff is DEGREASER, i mean its hardcore, you have to dilute it. I took a pan with some degreaser and put some water in it, and took some scratch pads and brushes and went to town, rinsed outside with a hose until it the water ran clean. Then used the air compressor to blow dry and wiped them good with a rag.

I didnt **** anything up did i???

Cant say if you hurt anything. I doubt the chemical did, but the scrubbing may have. When Im working with really dirty stuff I usually put some gas in a bucket and soak it, then use a paintbrush to clean it up good.

the pad i used wasnt too rough by any means. I was light and careful with it.

the look alot better though, when they are dirty they almost look like they are that brownish black color, but with some time cleaning there is a nice shiny silver under it :D

replace the timing chain anyway.. like everyone said its one of those things that if your there you might as well do it so it doesnt cause a major problem down the road.. and as for the pushrods.. just take a peice of glass and roll them along it.. if they roll with no problems then they should be ok
