Help: Car bogging down and backfiring!

Ok, so I checked the timing and it was right. I replaced the wires also but still nothing. It's actually doing it much less now, but the light still comes on and turns off when I turn the car off....anyone else have any ideas...????

I had the same issue. I have a 1991 GT, and the only code I had was code 66. I tried replacing the MAF twice with the stock reman, and neither worked. I replaced the fuel filter, which poured out black fuel, and still did the same thing. I got it to run somewhat right when I disconnected the MAF, but the final product was when I replaced the computer behind the passenger side cowl panel. The original one had obvious signs of corrosion on it, and the some of the terminals were white and rusted out. I cleaned the wiring harness connector and purchased a reman one off ebay for about $230 including shipping, and that problem is now gone. I know this thread is old, but just in case someone stumbles across it looking for the same answer I'd tell them to diagnose the computer. I never suggest that first, because it's almost 99.9% sure the last thing to go bad, but If you only get code 66, and any of these symptoms, I wouldn't rule it out.
