I am interested in buying a new mustang v6....I'm also thinking of possibly going with a convertable. I am just not sure if I should go with the auto transmission or 5-speed. I have had many 5 speeds and sports cars in the past and have also owned automatics. My thinking on the auto is I am thinking relaxing summer cruising ride in a lazy man's auto. Lot's of stop and go traffic in city...just wnat to chill out......other part of me says that even though it's only a v6 the 5 speed will be more fun to drive ...over 200hp in a stick I'm sure the car will be quick enough for me. I'm really not sure if I should sacrifice fun for comfort. I have driven a new mustang v6 auto and it was fine ....I have not driven a 5 speed v6 yet......thanks for your input in advance.

My friend has an '05 v6 5 speed and loves it.
You make a valid comparison, fun vs relaxation.
My way of thinking is, I can relax when I get home, but I will take all the fun I can get.
My GT is a 5 speed.
I'm sure I would be faster in an auto, as I'm no master shifter, but moving the stick through the gears makes me feel a part of the machine, instead of a passive onlooker.

Im with Humbolt on this...
My first car was a 2000 v6 and at first i loved it, but after awhile i couldnt wait to get out of it. I didnt like the idea of not totally controlling what gear i wanted to be in. I didnt like not being able to hold 1st gear up to 3k for a punch if need be. I didnt like the sloppy slow downshifts. So i got out of it and now drive a 99 GT Manual... and am MUCH Happier, i will never buy an auto again... whatever i am drivng.
.... unless its a minivan.

Get the auto if you want. When I was shopping for my Mustang (She is 11 years ols now), I went out of my way to get an auto. Shattered my knee as a teenager playing hockey. All that Rugby and Football didn't help either. The knees are terrible.

My shoulder has finally healed over a recent injury. If I had a stick I wouldn't have been able to drive. Bad enough driving in rush hour. In the great white north, it was really easy driving an auto in the ice stopped at an uphill light.
My son also has a '95 vert with an automatic. He put in a high stall torque converter, a Lentech valvebody and a rachet B&M shifter. He smokes 5 speeds off the line.
He now has a 'TEECer' which will allow him to change his shift points (Among other things) and his almost stock GT will be even faster.
One day all cars will be automatics - the age of the computer will help define cars more and more. Don't give me this Macho BS, or being 'one with the car'

Get whatever you feel makes most sense. If you think you'd end up kicking yourself for getting an auto, go with the manual. If you live in an area like I do and it's nothing but bumper-2-bumper freeways and stop lights, auto might be the way.
I grew up in the UK, and they'd p1ss themselves laughing at ANYONE who thought they were a big tough guy, just cos they drove a manual. Most cars there are stick, and no-one thinks they have some elite, God-given, driving talents, just because they can drive them.
It cracks me up when I see the "vagina" type comments, like above. I think some people have "stick" issues which may have more to do with the twig in their pants, than the one by their right leg

S'cuse me, but aren't ALL 05-06 Mustang transmissions 5 speed units now?
The AUTO 5 speed has several negatives going for it in my eyes: They're made in France, they cost nearly $1000 above the manual, they get worse fuel mileage, and they forgot to put a dipstick on it , so as to keep you coming back to the dealer to let them check the fluid level for you So where's the positive side of them?

The new ATs are a lot different. You can tune around the limitations of the AT and make it chirp tires in most gears. I have a manual, which I love, even though there is a lot of traffic here in DC. I enjoy shifting the gears. I love being able to down shift if the need arises. I also like being able to put the car in 5th and cruise around at 50 if I want to. It is definitely not a "Macho" thing, it just happens to be what I enjoy. But I might just be a control freak!
P.S. There is a V6 Auto running 13.41 @ 103, so don't think that AT will limit your performance potential in the V6. And he is getting 384 RWTQ... AND he is a member of this site.... SCRMING. Check out V6 Tech for more info.
