wheel decision

I just bought my wife a black 2000 convertible. The car came with a set of 18-inch wheels. They're TSW thruxtons, and I really liked the appearance when I first saw the car. The fronts have a 255/45/18 tire and the rears are deep dish wheel with a 275/40/18 tire.

Now here is my question. One of the rear wheels is damaged and will need to be replaced, and both rear tires are about used up. Therefore, they need replacing as well. I am considering up-sizing the rear wheels to a 19-inch setup as long as I have to buck up. But, I'm not exactly sure if this will look good. I have seen staggered sizing countless times on other vehicles, and I generally like the looks. However, I have seen some that look aweful too. I think the biggest issue is finding a tire with the apporpriate sidewall height for both size wheels. If anyone has some input or some pics of staggered wheel sizing on mustangs, I would really appreciate it.

It gets kind of old seeing everyone with the same set ups. I kind of wish I didn't get my steeda ultra lites since they resemble the cobra r's so much. I see tons of cobra wheels around here, and not many cobra r's so its not too bad.

I'd stay with an 18" wheel. 19 is pushing it unless you put 13" rotors on the car. It will look like a stagecoach. There was a mustang with 19" wheels in MM&FF Sept 2003. It looked good. It's a mixture of the right ride height, tire size, and rotor size. The cobra in that issue of MM&FF looked great. I wish I had gone with 17" rims for practical purposes; $250 or so per tire is going to get expensive.

I'm thinking of switching to Pirelli's when these wear out.

The Nittos are 285/35, and I would really like something a little smaller like a 265/45. Maybe 255/45, but I think that may be a bit small. I saw a wheel/tire set up for an 18x9 over in the 5.0 section that looked really good, but I forget what size tire he was running.

Edit: I found the thread. It's a 265/35. I need to find out what the off sets are between Roush 18x9s and Steeda Ultra-lite 18x9s. I may have a problem lowering the car due to the wheel sticking out too far :( http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=590409

:notnice: pirelli's P-zero is the only pirelli worth looking at, and even that isn't all that great.

those are the only tires you should be concerned with for everyday, street/strip use! There all really close in comparison, but I have to give it to the Falkens... maybe i'm biased since i've owned one set of them for just over a year with daily driven abuse, and strip abuse twice a month and there's still about 75 - 80% tread left on them. I've owned the NT555's when they first came out, they were good but they didn't rider very well... atleast that was my take on them. ET streets & BF goodrich pro streets are great, but pricey since there a softer compound & tend to wear out a little faster than the others. I havent owned a set of eaither of them but i have friends who have both of them, and they go through them like there's no tomorrow. for a track tire that you can use on the street, it doesn't get much better than them
 
When I replace my tires, the objective is to get a tire that doesn't wear out quickly. ;) Also price is key. I'm not auto crossing or bracket racing so a tire with a long tread life is important. When it does come time to slap on racing tires, they won't be used daily, anyways.

Yup, I'm guessing yours is a daily driver and you drive it in winter?
