Summit Sport Seats-My Review with Pics

For Christmas my parents bought me the Summit Sport seats from SummitRacing.com. Figured you all would like to know a few things incase you are interested in them for your car.

Weight ~40 Pounds. I had cloth seats stock and I reused my stock sliders(including the power one) so I didnt loose very much as I had hoped to. I probably lost maybe 4 pounds each.

Install Really wasnt that bad. It took me a little longer at first because I wanted to use the sliders that came with the seats to loose more weight, but there was no way I could make work. If I knew that I was gonna use the stock sliders it probably could be done in 1.5 hours. I originally installed the spacers that came with the seat but the seats sat a little too high for me so I removed them. On the drivers side seat, I simply drillled new holes on the top alluminum piece. The bolt hole must be about ~1 shorter(from side to side) so I had to drill near the edge of the alluminum piece...but it fit. On the passenger side the stock slider is 2 seperate pieces so you dont need to drill off to the side, jsut measure and drill the hole in the center of the slider. There is a cable that goes from one slider to the other which needs to be shortened because the sliders will be bolted closer together. Once that is done, another hole must be drilled in the part of the slider which bolts to the car since the sliders are closer together now. Install requires no welding, just a 10mm socket,15mm socket, 16mm socket, a few drill bits(not sure of the size), a power drill and some time.

What I like about the seats.
1. They look SO MUCH BETTER then my stained cloth seats I had.
2. Not to expensive.
3. Get the leather feel without the leather weight
4. Seats hug you well(so your not sliding everywhere), yet are still comfortable
5. Tilt foward unlike some aftermarket seats.

What I dont like about the seats

1. Didnt loose as much weight as I liked(but I still lost weight so I guess this is an invalid reason
2. When you tilt the seat foward, they hit the roof by the sunvisor. They still allow plenty of room for people in the back to get in.
3. I compared them to stock leather seats from my friends 04 GT, and they are not as comfortable. They are much more firm but I guess once I wear them in a little they will soften up. In the upper back region(right below the seatbelt holes) there is a little too much pressure which might cause slight discomfort after extended driving. Overall still comfortable.

Price I think they were $209, and $5 extra for shipping, but dont quote me. The jegs seats are identical but might be $10 cheaper...still unsure about that. Jegs offers the seats with different color inserts as well.

Overall For the price you cant beat them, I give them the big thumbsup! 9/10

yeh i'm confused on that one....could you explain that better? how do they hit the sunvisor? I'm thinking about getting these or the arizen ones... I was leaning towards the arizen because they have custom brackets for our cars. Did you notice if the seats sit higher than stock? I've heard that from a few people who have the seats... being 6'4 i can't afford to lose any headroom.

but the real question is.... do the chicks come with the seats????

i really want those seats but to ship them up here to canada is going to cost an arm and a leg i'm sure

you had power seats before, so can you still move the seats to adjust the height and leg room? you just lost your power lumbar correct?

good job on the seats install guide.

this should be put in the How to Thread for sure. i'm gonna want to look at this again in the future

well i got the same seats for xmas, and also put them in today...its funny because we both ran into the EXACT same problems....i originally had the aluminum spacers in, but they sat a bit too high, so i used the stock bolts from the stock seats to bolt the sliders to the new seats, and didnt use the spacers.....

what keven mentioned about the seat hitting the visor is true because the seats are about 2" taller back than the stock seats, and they also sit about 3/4" higher off the sliders than the stock seats....the only thing i didnt like about them is when i go to put my hand on the pass seat to turn around to back up, the bolster is in teh way of my arm, so its a bit awkward....overall they are a GREAT buy....i'll post pics tomorro....:D

Dude, you rock for actually WEIGHING them. The 40lbs does not include the sliders right? That sucks that you couldn't make the others work, if I get these seats I definately want to ditch the heavy power stuff. Thanks for the writeup and the seats look GREAT.

With the spacers it was noticbly higher. I even had to tilt the steering wheel up a click. With the spacers removed its maybe 3/4 higher the stock cloth seats. But remember if you have leather, they probably sit lower then your seats.

No the girls dont come with the seats, they are there because they want my bod. Your right about the power thing, however all my power stuff crapped out on me so I will be looking for a new slider for the drivers. I might switch to manual as it will be a good 10 pounds lighter. I would feel honored to make it into the How To Thread.

Can you post a measurement of the seatback from the bottom of the seat (where you butt goes) to the top of the seatback? If so, I'll compare that to mine to see what difference there is.

The only complaint I've had with aftermarket seats are with the height of the seatback. I am 6'5" and most seats do not come up high enough. I've got great seats now, but the back could be a couple inches taller at least.

I'll keep my seats for a couple more years, but will probably need to find something taller.
Thanks.

According to Summit's website and Corbeau's website, the Summit sport seats are 4.5 inches taller (37.5 vs. 33). I have the wide version of the Corbeau Legacy seat, so the other dimensions are perfrect for me.

My Corbeau seats came with their custom sliders and they fit perfectly out of the box. The install was only a few minutes. I wonder if Summit's seat would fit on my Corbeau sliders. Anyone know?

Oh-man, that's perfect! I was looking into the Corbeau Legacy seats in the wide version...since I'm 6'5" about 220. I was very worried about getting them because I wasn't sure how they felt. Are they comfortable for the long rides (since I drive the stang to show's all over the state)?

I wish there was a Corbeau dealer that I could go to and sit in the seats before I bought them...

Comfortable? Well, it's not like the stock seats which are not firm at all. These seats are firm, but more ergonomic in feel than anything. I have been on 6 hour trips with no issues at all and with less fatique than with the stockers. The seats are firm, but supportive. Once you've been in a decent aftermarket seat, you won't believe how much you used to get tossed around in a stock seat.......and didn't even realize how much!

My passengers don't care for it too much at first, but after a few minutes driving they are surprised at the comfort and support. I prefer my Jeep Grand Cherokee leather seats on real long trips, but I have more fun in the stang.

I'm 6'5" and about 250, so you'll fit just fine. No issues at all. There's a local shop here in Atlanta that has every style and size of Corbeaus seats on display for customers to sit on (glad I did, cause some seats were way too narrow or uncomfortable).

Thats good you got them installed without too much trouble. Having the install being a PITA was keeping me from getting aftermarket seats. The seats look very good.

I got Arizen seats for Christmas from the woman. They're the all black leather version. They haven't arrived yet however. I also got myself new black carpet and floor matts and will be changing out the grey.

I'm north of Atlanta, where did you go to check out the seats? thanks

Here's the link: http://yp.bellsouth.com/sites/automod/index.html

The shop is called AutoMod. They don't have inventory on seats, but they got me the seats delivered to my house quickly. A word of caution, a lot of stuff they sell is kind of ricey, so just keep your eyes low and go straight to the seat area. :rlaugh:

The location is near I-285 at the exit for Peachtree Industrial. The shop is just south of 285 a few blocks.

Sounds cool, thanks man! I definitely realized how crappy the stock Mustang seats were when I got my 06 WRX.

Looks like I'll be ordering some new Corbeau Legacy seats, since my only worry was about being too tall & fat for them...lol!
