Why less aggressive tires?

I was looking for some tires for my 00 GT vert, and just out of curiosity looked up what an 06 GT vert wears.

I'm surprised that the newer car has thinner tires, both in the 17 and 18 inch setup. 235 width and a 55 sidewall ratio versus the older 245/45 on the 17 inch wheel.

Even the 18 is a 235/50?

Why is that, any ideas? Softer ride, maybe?

The 05 / 06 Mustang is so improved over the 99-04 that it easily out handles the old Stang with it's skinny tall tires.

The narrower, taller tires are used simply to make the new Stang a better daily driver and to have a larger diameter tire for aestitics.

Softer ride, less tracking and quieter ride. I took off my stock wheels and tires, put on my wheels from my 99GT and what a difference. Mine are 17x8 and 17x9 with 245/45 on front and 275/40s rear. Now I am looking for taller tires. I can not believe how loud these are compared to stock. I am going to 50 series.
