Pulling rear wheel bearings and seals

I have a leaky pass. side axel seal and I was gonna change the bearings and seals. What do you guyz use to pull the bearings?

If I rent one will it come w/ the proper attachments? Or would i have to get those seperately?

I would invest in a seal puller also...Cheapy tool that makes the job much easier...looks almost like a ice climber's axe if you don't know what it is...

Yep, get the slide hammer and bash away on it 'till your arm is exhausted If you vary the angle slightly as you are slide-hammering, you can make sure the bearing race doesn't get canted & wedged making it much harder to get out...

Autp parts were closed by the time I was ready to go so I couldent get a slide hammer. I was able to get the seals out using a hammer and an open end wrench. I had rented a bearing puller and used that to get the bearings out. But now I cant get the new ones to go in straight. What do you guyz use to install new bearings...when I tried they would always get cocked and I would have to pull them out again. I figure a proper diameter piece of pipe would work but i dont have one. I already destroyed one of the new seals using it to try and get the wheel bearing in place. I dont wanna do that again. In my chiltons they were using some sort of installer tool...any ideas?

They're called bearing race/seal drivers. You can pick up a set from any decent auto parts store, or even from harbor freight.

I remember doing that when I put my gears in. I had to have my dad bring down his torch set so we could heat the races up and free the bearing mount (think Loctite) that was on the stock bearings. Once we used the hot wrench, the slide hammer was a piece of cake to get them out.
