Flowtech headers

They're cheap not only in cost, but construction. I had a pair of Flowtech shorties on my '89 and they werent junk, but not great either. I would pop a gasket every now and then despite the headers being tight, even the metal/asbestos gaskets. I believe Hedmans are similar. If you want the 1.5" primaries for torque then they'll work and probably decently. I just ordered a set of Hooker Comps and if nothing has changed in the last 7 years, then they are still quality parts.

Anyone have experience with flowtech headers. I am looking at a set 1.5" pipes with 3" collectors?

Your Input would be appreciated.

I've got them, gp001 has them.

They're great but I recommend getting them jethot coated or something similar, especially if you get the painted ones.

well i just revived a dead thread :D

I just ordered some Flowtech headers, 1.5" primaries and 3" collector. They are decent build quality, but I'm having some clearance issues with the clutch equalizer bar. Did anyone else with these headers have an issue? I'm wondering if the clutch equalizer bar on my car isn't the correct one or something. Everything else worked out fine, I'm just hitting the primaries with the arms of this equalizer bar.

Any info would greatly be appreciate, i'm so ticked off right now lol

Thanks

I had coated flowtechs. They were built fine, but hung down way too low and scraped all the time. The power steering drop bracket that came with them tore the mounts out of my frame rails.

I would not buy another set of long tubes again.

ok, i'm alittle less ticked off now. I don't think I'll have any scraping issues for being too low. they look all right to me in that area.

Is there some other kinda way to engage the clutch w/o this equalizer bar on a 4 speed manual transmission?

i think i figured it out.... My car has a '68? 302 in it, should the equalizer bar be different then the '66 289 one? they are shaped different and i think the 67-70 bar would work out. i'm not really even sure if the one i have is the correct one in the first place  the previous owner of this car did some crazy stuff, so i'm not gonna rule that out.

'65-66 V8s and 65-66 hipos used two different part numbers, but I think the hipo was just a less flexible/welded design. '67-70 also had a seperate part number with yet another for Bosses and hipos. I had to hammer on my Hooker Comps to make them fit around the scattershield, frame and (I think) clutch linkage, but the Comps fit just fine when I had my '65 notch.

i was trying to find pics of different kinds of linkages, and the v8 65-66 one does not really look like mine. there is a square deal with a hole in it at one end of the arms....and I do not have that. other than that tho, the design is identical.

I'm starting to think when they swaped the 302 into the car they didn't change the equalizer bar. is that possible? the old headers didn't have a problem with them.

There always has to be something.
