Hello everyone i am kinda new here and any help would greatly be appreciated. I have a 90 notch heres a little bit about the car
-170,000 on motor untoched intake heads and bottom end all stock
-homemade cold air kit with k/n
-rebuilt performance T-5
-Pro 5.0 short throw
-Mac shorty headers
-Mac off road x
-reduced size pipe coming out the back...no mufflers
-Electric Fan
-Msd blaster Coil
-Ford racing wires and plugs
-Msd Cap and rotor
-160* thermostat
-4.10 Ford performance gears
-King Cobra clutch
-Lake wood drag shocks
-Weld Draglites
-15x3.5 M/T sportsmans
-15x8 M/T Street E/T
-Smog and A/c delete
-Advanced Timing

So i went to the track last night for the first time and i am pulling 13.9's with about a 1.9 60 ft, all my suspension is 170k old except drag shocks so i do spin some so i already know LCA's does that seem about right for my setup i mean i wasnt upset about it but what do you guys think.

One more thing i was pulling a lean code on the scanner, and i always run 93 ocatane gas but i added 2 gallons of 110 race do you think that hurt or helped me?

I also got a set of under drive pullies from ford performance and a holley Adj fuel regulator and possibilities of me seein a 13.7 with that

sorry so long guys hope you got some answers for me thanks in advance

I would lose the 160 t-stat for a 180 or 190 unless you have cooling issues and put some good mufflers on it. Seems like you should be turning a little bit lower times than you are.....what's your track elevation? If the motor is healthy and your at good elevation you could pull low 13's but if your spinning bad off the line that will kill your ET. I could pull a 13.9 with my 87GT putting down 225rwhp with stock suspension, motor on 2.73's (had pullies, K&N, 70MM TB/EGR, 2 1/4" Dynomax cat back, electric fan, and smog/AC delete). Don't know about the fuel/lean issue.

how fast were you hitting the traps at?

you could get a 13.7 without the pulleys, just cut the 60' back a tenth and you'll be there or damned close 13.8 or 13.7 more likely.

pulleys will free up some power though, for sure.

1.9 is a good 60', but i bet there is a 1.8 hiding there somewhere (4.10s and slicks and all). Power will obviously help you drop ETs, but the 60' time will do wonders in itself, but honestly you seem like you're doing pretty well as it is.

with or without pulleys i'd bet you can muster up a 13.7x
i'd say get 'em and try to better your starts further.

how come i cant get some kinda cool custom title???? above my avatar......

gotta be special, or do somthing stupid......hahaha
who knows these days.

i haven't gotten on the boards nearly as much as i used to, i try to check up now and again, but its like once a month these days.

Your setup is almost a total clone of mine (minus the tires). Now I've got a better idea of what I should be shooting for if/when I can ever get my butt down to Firebird for a couple of runs.

Btw, I wouldn't recommend running a full set of underdrive pullies unless you've got a 3g alternator and a pretty stout cooling system, as every person I've met that's used them has hated the consequences of their loss of charging/cooling. Pullies aren't bad, in and of themselves, you've just gotta have everything else up to snuff to support 'em.

I also second the suggestion to remove the 160* t-stat in favor of at least a 180*. FWIW, I was running a 180* in mine for awhile but went back to a stock 195* failsafe t-stat for emissions' sake (helps it burn cleaner, gets better score numbers during smog check) ... but with the heat out here, I may swap back to a 180* immediately after the smog sniffer.

I've picked up 1 or 2 MPG average per week since the swap without changing anything else. Running your motor way below standard operating temps also supposedly accelerates ring/cylinder wear and may cause your ECM to take that much longer to go into closed-loop mode (hence the lower gas mileage). Just something to consider.

Just curious ... why are you running without muffs?

u know i really dont know why i am running with out mufflers I like the sound honestly... and i was worried about losing all that torque down low thats why i had them put 2.25 inside my x pipe it just slid in and they weled it hopefully giving me some back pressure. I just got the adj fuel reg. in what should i be at for pressure? with my setup, and what is that big deal with this 3g alternator everyone raves about i am really curious. I appreciate all the feed back guys I love my mustang and i love racing just nice finding some people that like doin the same!!!!!

The deal with a 3g is that it has a 130 amp output; the stock unit is only 65 amps. If you add up all of the accessories you're running at one time, even in stock form, the 65 amp alt is barely treading water, so to speak - adding an electric fan is a serious strain on an already taxed system. It's do-able to stick with the 65 amp alternator, but not for very long, as you'll tend to burn those alts up more easily from the strain and you risk battery drain issues, as well.

Example: Ever notice how, at night, your lights will dim when you pull up to a stoplight and you're running your A/C (or heater) and wipers? Imagine that being twice as bad, once you add the strain of more accessories like a fan to the mix. The 3g alternator eliminates this problem altogether. There's several walk-throughs on here regarding the selection and installation of a 3g unit. It's worth the investment, even if you're not planning a lot of other upgrades in the future - just makes what you've got work that much better.

As for your exhaust setup ... well, downsizing to 2.25" might add a tiny bit of backpressure, but you still could probably benefit from a bit more, being that you're running without cats or anything. Even adding a couple of one-chamber Flowmasters or some Dynomax Race Bullets with dumps would help, I'm sure. There wouldn't be much (if any) loss in volume and tone, but you'd probably pick up a bit more torque that could help with your launches.

i would leave that x pipe alone, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust will be just find, and i don't think you'll loose much low end.
a MONSTER throttle body and egr w/intake and such, with stock everything else might be different.

as for the pullies, i have a full set of underdrives, and my car cools fine, and charges fine when driving. Sure at a stop and idle the lights are dim, just rap the throttle up and they'll be normal again. I've never had a problem starting my car, the battery is always got a good charge, you wouldn't know the difference between the two unless you looked at a gauge, or saw them idling at night.
