how much clearance do you have between your front disk brakes and the wheel? i know alot of people run 17x8's with a 4.5" backspacing up front. but my car is lowered 3 inches in the front, and if i run a wheel that wide, it will rub the fender. so im looking to get some custom built 17x7's with a 4.5" (maybe even 4.75" if i can do it) backspacing which will give me an extra inch of room between the wheel and fender, but my only worry is that the brakes wont clear it. i have the ssbc 11" brake kit. any help would be greatly appreciated! thanks!!

I've got 17x7 TTII with 4" BS and 235/45R17 on the front of my '65 with the SSBC 11" brake kit. No clearance issues whatsoever with the brakes - I'm sure I could upgrade to the 13" brake kit, actually. I originally attempted to use 17x8 with 4.75"BS, but they interfered with my Global West UCAs by a lot - I'm sure 4.5"BS wouldn't have been enough. The 17x7 with 4" BS fit great and I haven't had to roll the fenders. My car is lowered roughly 2" from stock - I've kind of lost track, but it's something like that. A data point for you...

if it was a 7 inch rim with the same 4.75 backspacing do you think it would have hit?

Yes, if the 17x8 with 4.75 backspacing hit then the 17x7 with the same backspacing would also hit. 4.75 backspacing is 4.75 backspacing no matter the overall width of the wheel. 17x8 TTII's with 4.75 backspacing is a fairly common setup, but most people have stock control arms. As mentioned, I'd say the clearance issues arose due to the GW control arms. If you're running stock control arms then you shouldn't have a problem there. Your car is pretty low compared to most. I'd think you'll have more problems clearing the fenders in a sharp turn. It will look sweet if you can get everything to clear.:nice:
