Hey I have been reading all the post on these transmissions. Looks like the World class t5 Z is rated to 450 hp, but only 330 torque. Who here is running alot of power throgh one. I dont beat on my car, and I might make a few trips to the track but I think the t5 Z will be sufficient.

Right now after a tune I hope to be putting down 300, after my supercharger install Im hoping to get 420 hp. Anyone running this trans on a similar combo?

I am running the stock T-5 that came in my car from the factory. I will not power shift it though. Even at the track I won't power shift it. I have had this combo for almost a year now and trouble free.

If your making around 300rwhp right now, you should be fine with the T5Z for a while. Once you put the blower on don't expect it to last real long though. I blew mine up on the street on street tires shortly after I put on my Vortech. Start saving for a Tremec...

Hmmmm... good question. Short answer: I don't really know.

I put the KB on April before last and the car is my year round daily driver.

In either case, the fact that you have had it on for over a year with a daily driven KB is impressive to me. I'm in the process of building my car right now and I'm working from the rear to the front. The next item in questions is the tranny and I have been shopping around everywhere. Upon asking about the t-5, people start tossing tko 500 in the air, but this is going to be a weekend cruiser, maybe daily driver not a track warrior. Not trying to thread jack, but this is also helping to shift my decision in a proper direction.

Thanks

I run regular ole Cooper Cobra tires with a DF Centerforce clutch and am a pretty agressive driver. I should probably mention that my engine combo makes 371 ft lbs of torque at just 2300 RPM. With a set of slicks or something, I'm sure I could twist the whole thing into a prezel at the drag strip. It will just come down to how you use and treat it.

Don same her man, this car is my weekend crusiser also. Ive has it for a few months now and have put on maybe 50 miles. I mean I bang gears when I fell like getting on it, but do not power shift. I can throw out the 1,100 buck for the super duty t5z, and if it breaks Ill pull it and rebuild. But ill be pretty pissed if I spend $2,000 on a built t5 as in astro prepped t5 or the tko 500 and destroy that. Just trying to spend my money wisley, as this is not a track car, but a cruiser.

That's pretty good, i just checked my dyno chart and mine only makes about 300ft lbs at 2300 but I drive mine pretty agressively as well. I don't know how much the libertys are but they are really strong you should look into their pricing as well.

thing is daggar... you run the heavy duty FRPP tranny.. thats not the same as a T5Z right?

Ya, that's deal. It has to be able to handle some Manly shifting when I feel the need to throw down on some roodypoos candy-ass. I don't do it often, but it's nice to know that it can handle it when it's time to do some serious driving.

My next stop is a GForce. By the end of this month I expect to be putting down roughly 500 ft lbs at the same rpm. Next will be rear end and tranny beef up prior to putting on some tires that grab.

It's true... it's not exactly the same as a T5Z. I run the superduty variation. Not sure what all the differences are other than kevlar synchros and steel retainer but I can tell you that it seems to be considerably stronger than my original T5 (which in an 86, was NOT a Z). I'm pretty happy with it. I'll be even happier with a G-Force and McLeod multi-disk clutch with a set of 275 series or wider stickies. :D

yeh the t5-z is the super duty by ford motorsports. As far as Ive read the origanal wc t5 handles about 275 torque in the pre 1990 cars I thing. Then 1990 and newer ran the new wc t5 that was rated at 300 ft lbs of torque. And finally the t5-z is the same t5 just upgraded alloy gears and syncros and is rated at 330 ft lbs torque.

I have the stock 110,000 mile T-5 in mine still. I powershift 1-2 and 3-4 but lift shift 2-3. I dont have 400hp but I have 420rwtq. So far its fine and I havent run it with sticky tires yet. I probrably wont untill the car isnt my daily driver anymore.

honestly I never powershift. I know it destroys the trans so I stay away from that. I can shift very quickly though, not in comparison to a powershift, but I am quick. Still getting used to this car its new to me but I could slam gears in my '99 real fast.
