This motor was in my daily driver for the last 9 months, and the car never seriously misbehaved or broke down on me (except once when I swapped a Holley 1850 in place of the 4100 for a few weeks). The motor does smoke some and there does appear to be some blowby. I would definitely recommend a rebuild. I am unsure of the motor's internals or history. I bought the car from an agent and never was able to get any information out of the previous owner. The motor does have a tendency to run hot, however the car never overheated even with the A/C on in the hot Louisiana summer months.

Aside from this and the obvious oil changes, I haven't done much to the motor. Here is what I have done to the engine since I got it:

replaced alternator
replaced thermostat
replaced plugs / wires
replaced coil (I will be keeping coil, but I should have another I will throw in)
replaced valve cover gaskets with newer metal / rubber style
replaced two squealing belts

The transmission is in good shape as far as I can tell. I never had any issues shifting and previously I only drove newer mustangs with T-5s. The clutch was on its last leg, however, and will need to be replaced.

Two weeks ago the power steering cylinder developed a leak so I decided to swap motors ahead of schedule. The engine is still in the car and can be seen to run but cannot be driven as I have pulled the power steering setup and sent it off to be rebuilt.

The drivetrain is complete but here is a more detailed breakdown of what is included:

1966 289 heads (not sure of specs)
1965 4100 carb 1.08 (C5ZF stamped on base)
original carb spacer
block #C5AE-6015E
intake #C60E-9425-B
gold valve covers and air cleaner assembly (can use a cleaning / repaint)
distributor, cap, wires (I may even throw in the spark plugs)
A/C compressor in good working condition (blows very cold)
P/S pump in good working condition (no problems at all with P/S until the control valve developed a leak)
water pump
timing cover / chain / balancer / all pullies
belts (two new, one good condition)
alternator (replaced two months ago w/lifetime warranty)
motor / tranny mounts (not sure of condition), but not frame brackets
transmission crossmember
starter
all accessory brackets / bolts
3 speed manual transmission
bellhousing
flywheel
all other clutch components including clutch linkage but not the pedals (clutch disc, pressure plate, and T/O bearing will need to be replaced)
stock fan and shroud
3 row radiator
chrome shifter in good condition

I will also include any additional parts for the motor that haven't been installed yet (misc. parts such as points and condenser, K&N air filter, etc)

I will be keeping the wiring harness, accelerator linkage, pedals, driveshaft, coil (I should have a replacement for it though), A/C hoses, and P/S hoses. Other than that I can't think of anything else I want.

Please make me a reasonable offer. If no reasonable offers are made, I should have an asking price in the next week. I want to speak with a few people who know a little more about these older motors first. As of now this is a complete package. If I can't find a buyer after a certain point, I will more than likely part it out here and on ebay.

The motor is located in Baton Rouge, La. I'd prefer not to ship but am willing to help do so.

Pictures can be seen at: http://www.doctornetwork.com/download/steven/mustang/

I will try to take some video of the motor later this week as well.

Please post any questions here, in a PM, or send them to [email protected]
